I'm up at 5:45 every day, do the early morning school run of 7;30, high pressure job till 5, then run kids to clubs and activities, sort hours, start work again around 8;45, fall into bed around 11.
I'm shattered.
Remind me I'm not alone!!!!

You're not alone. Only difference here is that I don't make it till 11 before I fall asleep (resulting in less work prepared for the next day).
Much sympathy/ solidarity coming from me.

You're not alone. And I'm a single parent whose DC's dad lives abroad so only has them during school holidays, I win! (The worst competition ever 😂)

That sounds hard! You may not be alone (I rarely have such a long day) but do look after yourself.

The fact that you are writing this says something has to give.
Any of these might not be possible BUT:

  1. get a cleaner so less to do house wise
  2. compress or reduce work hours
  3. lower standards, have freezer dinners/hot lunch for kids at school and sarnies for tea
  4. lift share with other parents for clubs etc, or cut them down, kids do so much these days, is it all necessary??
You are definitely not alone though but try to find some solutions (if you have time!!) so it doesn't have to be this way.

Sorry if that all sounded massively patronising Blush I'm sure you have thought of all of those and were just looking for solidarity, not advice!!

Do you like your life? What's the one but you really want to get rid of. You aren't being paid for those extra hours work I bet.

Why are you getting up that early? How many children are there on the school run with you?

Did you choose this life? I'm sorry if something or someone has led you to this.

I think you need to stop the late night working. Easier said that done but it's driving you into the ground. Without that pressure your evenings would be more bearable.

Maybe drop your standards? I do the same school run but get up later and have said no after school clubs!

You are not alone - which is pretty terrifying when you think about it.

I am exhausted just reading about it. I have a lot of admiration for people like you. I know one lovely lady who is in very similar circumstances. When her nanny was on maternity leave, she had twins to entertain every afternoon while working from home. Not a bloody clue how she managed it for so long.

I hear you, up at 5.30, train to work, finish work, collect kids from clubs, dinner, baths (them) quick tidy round and in bed at 9.30. Thankfully I have Fridays off which softens the blow.

Are you a single mum? If not then where is your DH in all of this?

I say this to my female work colleagues who seem to accept too much of the workload when it comes to parenting.

I have a senior executive job and I make damn sure DH does his share although the balance is still skewed.

I don't think you are alone but that sounds as hard as nails.
