AIBU?

To ask when you stopped washing DC long hair?

My DD is almost 6 and has beautiful hair down to just above her bum.

I don't see her being able to wash it properly by herself any time soon.

I've spoken to others and their kids have being doing it since they were younger than DD although it's mostly boys with short hair.

So when did your DC start doing it themselves?

My daughter has just turned 5 and washes her long hair but I still watch to make sure she's rinsed properly. She does it herself at swimming lessons.

Not for ages. I think she was about 11.

When she started secondary school I cut it to shoulder length and said she could start from scratch washing and drying it herself, and as it grew longer again she was able to manage.

It's been back to bum length for the last couple of years now (she's 15).

Mine started at 9. Took a few messed up sessions for her to get the full hang of it. She dries it herself too now and that's a project in itself given how thick and long her hair is. On the bright side I find that she's taking better care of her hair, brushes it more, keeps it tidy since learning to shampoo it herself.

I mostly washed it until she was about 9 when we got it cut to just over shoulder length, it was too long and straggly at times. She washes it herself now in the shower every night but I often help her dry it just to be nice really and she likes it.

It's a relief to hear I'm not babying her! She does everything else herself so will just keep doing this for her for now.

Thanks everyone x
