Weirdest baby/childhood items you've held on to for sentimental reasons?

It's probably been done before, but I was interested because of another thread about a MIL passing on her son's stuff to her DIL.

I suppose my strangest one is my DS's umbilical stump (gross, I know, and not something I take out on a regular basis and fondle nostalgically).

I also have a pair of his favourite (now threadbare) cords from when he was two, his Toby The Tram Engine which, once upon a time, he couldn't be parted from for a minute and a baggie of his baby curls. I just can't chuck them out.

Am I just weird/a hoarder/ both of these things?

I've saved all my children's umbilical stumps. Found them last time we moved - the kids were simultaneously disgusted and mystified.... I've also saved a few of the baby books they loved best, and a few items of baby clothing that I loved best.

Thanks polly, he's only four at the moment but I'm sort of looking forward to showing it to him when he's older and seeing his reaction (evil laugh)

My dm still had the cord clip from my umbilical stump. I'm 30.

There's all sorts of weird sentimental baby stuff in our loft.

My mam tried keeping my sisters cord. The dog ate it < not envy.

Dummies, first pair of shoes (prob not that weird), one of each nappy size (unused!).

I also have a memory box with the umbilical clip, hospital bracelet, first hair clipping and a few random items e.g. Coins from the year he was born.

I have bags of his baby clothes - I'd love to get them made into a patchwork quilt but never seem to get round to it!

Probably the parking tickets from the hospital when DD was born.
They got added to her memory box in a pile of other things and I can't bring myself to throw them out now.

I have the entire umbilical cord, dp coiled it up and it shrunk down magnificently into a little dried gross Danish pastry, I love it.
Up til recently I still had most of the placenta in the freezer but admitted defeat on placenta smoothies, handed in my crunchy mama card and buried it under a butterfly bush in the garden.

My mum still has my hair, not from my baby days, but from when I was 16 and had it cut from my bum up to shoulder length

I bag of breastmilk in the freezer.... it is nearly 5 years old.

I do have a bad habit of holding on to not-very-sentimental odds and sods too, for a bit too long.

Like random stickers or badges the kids have been given on a nice family day out. And when we get home I peel the sticker with 'I found all the mystery items!' off their T-Shirt and think 'Aw, what a lovely day, they really enjoyed' and save it in a drawer. Then I find these bits two years later, I have no idea of what they're from and they go in the bin.

When DS' stump fell off I couldn't bring myself to throw away a part of him, so it sat on the side for a week or so until I had a word with myself and chucked it

Bummy My cousin had a bottle of breast milk which was originally frozen for practical reasons, then forgotten about, then rediscovered and kept for sentimental reasons. One Christmas Day when her daughter was 7 she ran out of milk and...yes.

Oh yes, 'twas a sad day when I defrosted the freezer and found bags of breast milk. I wasn't going to use it, it was out of date, so it went into the bin, but oh god, that hurt.

We have a little park where I live with a 'dodo tree' where people hang old dummies. It started because the gardeners kept finding lost ones on the pathways, but now is a bit of a tradition. I hung one of DS's on there but I kept the other two!

I also have a newborn size nappy (clean!) that I struggle to chuck out...

I have the hospital bracelets from my own birth, 40+ years ago. No idea why, I just can't bring myself to throw them away.

I did have DS's cord stump, but was persuaded to throw it out when I moved house 3.5 years ago. I still have his first outfits and hospital tags etc. I also have all his milk teeth so far, apart from the one he swallowed and then shat out the next day at school!

I have a few baby grows both dds wore but that's about it.

I do have my childhood owly (a little stuffed toy owl) though. He's very mucky and lives on my bedside table.

I have everything!!! I have done memory boxes for my 4 dc.

Every holiday we have taken, I've bought a postcode, special meals I've collected a napkin, every certificate they have ever received I've kept, the gown ds wore for his surgery, first shoes, first outfit, so not just the normal belly button stump.

I plan on giving it to them on their 18th...but they love looking at them now.
