AIBU?

To think that if you want to see Stonehenge you should buy a ticket.

I get that they are interesting but every time I try to travel down the 303 the traffic comes to a standstill while people gawp and take photos. As soon as you can't see the stones any longer from the road the traffic miraculously starts moving. Albu to want to erect a huge fence along the side of the a303 to prevent the pesky tourists from impeding my journey? Grin still it only took 40 minutes to do 3 miles today so maybe I should count my blessings.

Well, at £15 a ticket I understand why so many people want to take a look for free.

The price of the tickets is ridiculous.

The price of the ticket is ridiculous, but I don't think the notorious congestion on the A303 is caused by people slowing down to take photos of the stones!

It's one of the main routes to the West country, so has a high volume of traffic anyway and inevitably suffers congestion with extra holiday traffic, and it being the route you have to take to actually visit Stonehenge. I imagine the traffic might start moving more freely as so many cars are leaving at the Stonehenge roundabout to go to the stones.

That's not to say that people don't use the opportunity of being caught in a jam to take some photos!

I travel on this section of the 303 regularly (live near by).

Yup, slow traffic because, yes major traffic route but also because 2 lanes become 1 about 2 miles before Stonehenge (London side!) and because of the gawkers. And the old access road off 303 has been removed.
