To be pissed off with ndn anti-social bloody chimnea?!

NDN (who in all other ways are lovely) light up their bloody chimnea thing frequently (think 3-4 times a week). Its on now at 11pm and is absolutely stinking my house out and fills my garden with black ash. I have to keep my windows shut and its hot and uncomfortable, but if I have them open my eyes stream and the rooms are filled with smoky stink. I can't really say anything can I? Its their garden and I will sound like a miserable bitch, but its horrible! Will spend tomorrow cleaning ash off my windows, patio and garden furniture. What would you do?

I'd have a word. Could you ask them round to take a look at the ash residue? They probably don't realise.

I've never seen a chiminea produce that sort of smoke - they're normally a socially acceptable way to heat your patio. What on earth are they burning?

No idea what they are burning -but it smells so strong. The ash is thick and black, last time my garden was covered, and I mean covered. Had to jetwash the lot. I'm sure they haven't a clue its so bad, they are really nice. I'm going to have to say something aren't I? I hate things like this.

sounds like they could be burning lots of newspaper and cardboard as that produces lots of ash, I would def go and see them and have a conversation regarding the smoke direction and ash and ask them round to see what the impact is. I would suggest they move it on the patio, burn something different so it can burn hotter (producing less ash generally) and go from there - alot depends how well you get on with them really

We do get on -not best mates or anything but all very nice -which is why I hate upsetting their evening enjoyment! I think its got to be paper and not wood.

We light ours when the NDN's DC have been bouncing on their trampoline & squealing alongside our patio for hours on end when they have an entire huge garden to play in. Gets rid of them every time. What sort of person puts a trampoline right next to their neighbours' fence? If you don't have similar issues, YANBU.

Tell them they can buy smokeless logs which should solve the problem. We use them in our fire pit. Can't promise it does much to the smell but it might improve things.

No, no trampoline or noisy kids here. Both mine are quiet -in fact we are very rarely at home in the day, and when we are they use the park rather than the garden. Its very close and much more fun! I will try and catch up with one of them tomorrow for a friendly word!

Definitely speak to them, I bet they don't realise and would want to know if it bothered you.
