AIBU?

To be pissed off with DH who has only been driving a month that and has already been sent a penalty notice?

Went through a red light. Of course, it came to me as the registered keeper but it was his day to have the car.

3 points and 100 spondoolies down the drain.

I am furious!!

Why are you so angry ? The points go on his licence and presumably he pays the fine, any waŷ he just made a mistake

I always look at it as you do not learn to drive till AFTER you have passed your test. Give him a break he's a new driver and still learning.

Make sure that if he gets another 3 points within the 2 years of passing his test, then his license will be revoked!

Shit happens, he'll just have to be extra careful for the next couple of years if he doesn't want to have to resit his test.

What an idiot! I get that new drivers make mistakes but jumping a red light is pretty bad! Do you share all household income or does he have private funds he can pay it out of so it doesn't affect you?

I've just got off the phone to my insurance company after I got 3 points for speeding. I'm 38, clean licence for 21 years and full no claims. It has put my insurance up by £135!

I thought you were going to say he's been caught doing 32 in a 30 area or something and was going to say this can happen even to good drivers who've been driving for 20+ years () ...

however - jumping a red light is really bad driving. Aggressive or bloody careless. I wouldn't be impressed at all.

I'm annoyed that it is for jumping a red light. That's basic.

Shared money so that's 100 quid of family money we haven't budgeted for this month.

And the fact that this only has to happen once more in the next 2 years and he will have his license revoked. He is 31 and we've been together since we were 18 so whilst he would never expect or ask for lifts if we go anywhere as a family I drive.

I would be annoyed, regardless of how long he'd been driving. Running a red light is pretty bad, and it affects all of you as it will increase your premiums especially as he's a new driver.

The way my OH looks at it, it's part of the price of driving. Round our parts you haven't got much choice but to break the law sometimes - one of the intersections we go through down the road, you always have to run a red to turn right. Only 2 cars at a time. I got a ticket for being on hatched yellow lines the other day. I don't remember it but chances are I was moving forward and suddenly traffic stopped. Philosophically speaking I think will I remember this next year? If the answer is no don't sweat it. Although no excuse for dangerous driving.

Although the worst lately was nanny from last year losing her way and going down a rather stupidly designed road which ceases being a road halfway and becomes a loading road for the shopping mall. We forgot to change car address when we moved so fine turned into £500 when it went to collections. Fuming!! I hate our borough for driving infringements with a passion.

Of course YANBU to be annoyed. I'd expect a new driver to be more cautious yhan average, not be jumping red lights. He does realise its not just the fine, but is the increase in insurance too, even if this time he was lucky that he didn't hurt anyone or damage other vehicles?

I'm a bit surprised at the number of posters who seem to think that running a red light is no big deal.
You wouldn't be happy if you were legally driving through on green and got hit by someone running a red light

Absolutely ridiculous to run a red light! But your dh/oh is an adult yes? Why does it feel like you talk about him as if he is child.. Other posters have done this too.
He'll surely pay the fine? Then tell him he's an idiot and move on..

Running a red light is not 'shit happens' or something that can be put down to driving inexperience.

It is basic and when I just passed I was very aware that 6 points meant I would have to resit my test and was even more cautious.

I would be furious too.

Oh well, another three points over the next two years and he'll no longer be driving, not to mention that he'll struggle to get car insurance in future and it will affect yours if he's driving your car.
Thank God he didn't hit and kill an innocent person.
'Shit happens'? Yes, tell that to the person badly injured by an idiot like him (such as my bf who lost a leg as a result)
