AIBU?

To go back to my old job

I started a new job 8 months ago in a v similar field to my old one. However my old firm has just advertised a role similar to my old one.

New place has slightly different clients and whilst I prefer the old client group is not the end of the world - BUT

New place is a process/admin timewarp. Everything takes so so long and it all seems so pointless. There is no appetite for change as it is on such a large scale. It is wearing me out. I also have an extra element to the job which I really don't like but only have to do one day per week.

The new job is v local to me though and I have a v short commute. I also have more flexibility to work from home.

Old job is a great and forward thinking company but is 22 miles away (30 min motorway drive). Am I crazy to think of adding back a commute to my day? The travel was ok but obviously it is better (and cheaper) without doing it.

I can do some WFH in old job but not as much. Hours and pay are the same.

Where do you think you would be happier working?

Why did you leave the last job? The grass is always greener to begin with and it takes time to settle. You could apply for the old job, but remember that you might not automatically get it...

It does take time to settle but I feel after 8 months I should have a good idea of things. I am not unhappy but another colleague has just got a job with old firm and I was really jealous.

I only left last job as the new job was local. No other reason.
