People need to take responsibility for Listening. How did I know? I listened.

I know what the word referendum means. And if I didn't know, I'd look it up.

People think they can exercise their democratic right with no responsibility. They want to be spoon fed

branofthemist Sat 25-Jun-16 08:06:01

If people actually looked into it they would know. We have the Internet, it easy to find out. Clearly the people who have said it on mn do.

If 2 people on mn have said it, clearly you know that some people didn't know. So don't get your aibu?

"the assumption that people know what actually happens"

Well quite.

The margin was over a million people. Trying to blame ignorance, rather than preference, strikes me as making huge assumptions that one way of thinking is right and natural and the other is just the product of lazy ignorance.

There have been a number of nasty, divisive threads on MN since the result.

branofthemist Sat 25-Jun-16 08:10:15

Well, it was here or Chat.

why not chat?

You clearly know some people got it wrong. So how can you be unreasonable?

Or maybe put it in the EU referendum topic

NotYoda Sat 25-Jun-16 08:11:09

You know what, on reflection, I think you have a point.

It did not occur to me that people did not know this.

It's very sad that they did not

I am angry and depressed about what this vote has highlighted

Also there appears to be quite a few people who believe... Vote out on Thursday, Fri out membership is stopped... And then on Monday the NHS starts having their millions of pounds a week that the UK is saving by not being an eu member...

Google analysis suggests that after the result, people began searching for what the EU actually is. I think it's safe to say whe can't assume anyone will choose to arm themselves with the facts, so it probably should have been made clearer how the vote would actually be counted.
