Regift - bad or good?

We went to a 1 year old’s birthday party and the presents were being opened in front of everyone. One mum brought in a Noah’s ark as a present (my son has the same one so I know how the box looks like). This one wasn’t in a box but had a huge red bow around it and was packed into a really cute birthday bag. I personally thought it was lovely presented!!

The mum of the birthday boy made a comment once this other mum went to the loo saying: “hmm I bet it’s a regift”, which I didn’t think it was tasteful doing it in front of everyone.

What are your thoughts? What would you say/do? I think as long as a present is clean, fully functional and nicely presented it’s perfectly fine to give it as a gift.

I think that's so rude - maybe the box got bashed and she thought it would look nicer out, or maybe it was a regift. Still bloody rude to talk about a gift like that behind a friend's back!

The mum of the birthday boy sounds rude and ungrateful. Maybe the present was second hand without the original packaging, who cares so long as its in good condition? Or maybe it is a regift, I don't see a problem with that so long as it's not done in front of the original giver.
The point is it's something nice that's new to her son and she should have appreciated it instead of gossiping behind the giver's back. Sounds like she only cares how much they spent. Not great values or manners to teach her son!
