AIBU?

Nick names in the workplace

I work in a large office with folk from many different backgrounds. As a bit of a laugh and to while away a Friday afternoon a few weeks ago my team decided to give each other nicknames. Yes childish I know😀

None of the nicknames were sexist, racist or rude. They were just daft and we have been using them since. For example some people are now being referred to as Petal, Brenda and Pookie. 😉

We have a spare desk at our bit so it is sometimes used as a hot desk. Someone has complained that the use of nicknames is establishing a gang like culture in the office😱 A gang of Planners?

Obviously we will need to stop. Moral in the office is pretty shit at the moment as we are about to go through more redundancies so it's a shame we can't have a laugh.

Aibu to think some folk are a bit unnecessary?

What a bloody misery someone is! We spend that much time at work hat we should be able to enjoy it and have a laugh. As long as it isn't offensive and doesn't interfere with the workload then it shouldn't matter.

Maybe the boring twat person who complained is feeling left out? Can you suggest a tombola type affair where whoever is at the hot desk that day has to pick out a name to be used?

Tombola idea is great! I'm just off to look up the neighbours nickname thread...

Pick a nickname for the hot desk. Misery guts maybe?

Yeah, since it is a "hot" desk you could offer up names such as:
Sweaty Betty
Moist Maureen
Greasy Greg

...OK those names could maybe come across as offensive which would make your situation 10 times worse so please don't take any advice from me!

Gang members are notorious for calling each other Brenda.

You should've thought it through...

What colour bandanas are you guys wearing??

Tartan ones.

I've suggested we offer any hot dealers a nickname. Barbara has been chosen for both men and women.

My name is snugglebearGrin and I it next to Hodor.
