To ask this man to park his truck elsewhere..

I was inspired to post after reading another thread where a poster has left a van parked and the neighbour left a note asking it to be moved. I thought IWBU until I read some of the responses so thought I'd check with you all!

We live in a large block of apartments on the ground floor. There are 2 buildings perpendicular to each other with a really big residential car park out the front. We have Juliette balconies and patio doors that open onto it. Out of about 10 ground floor apartments we are the only ones that open straight onto the car parking spaces.

We very often have our patio doors open and sit on our big comfy chair in the living room with the sun streaming in enjoying the nice weather.

There is a guy that has a really large truck thing that is longer than a normal space and who regularly backs into the space directly in front of our patio doors. This results in the back of the truck being less than a metre from our open doors and about 3/4 the height. It doesn't block the sun but it's very unsightly and gives me the rage... especially when he SEES us sitting there and still backs up.

My concern about asking him to not park there is that the view isn't great anyway as it's a car park! So feel a bit cheeky... he has no issues parking elsewhere if the space is taken. I don't get the same rage if it's another car there for some reason, I don't even notice that.

The other thing is all the spaces are number allocated to the apartments although no one uses their own space - it's a free for all. But there's a SLIM chance it could be his actual space..

He doesn't even live in our building but still parks right outside it (us) and walks over to the other building.

WIBU to politely ask him to park in another space??

Do you have a car? If no one uses their own spaces then couldn't you start parking in it?

We park in it when we can but is not always possible. It seems to be a favourite space for people for some reason even when the car park is mostly empty! There's in excess of 40 spaces!

Other than if you park in it yourself, you can't ask him not to do it. As you said, it might belong to his flat anyway. But won't him parking elsewhere have a potential detrimental effect on other neighbours?

No detrimental effect to other neighbours due to the layout of the car park. We have 4 spaces in front of ours, no one else has this. I wouldn't even mind if he parked in another one of those, just not right in front of our open doors!

Someone has a bollard in their space! But we can't do that as renting. I was thinking of taking a pic but he drove away as I was writing this

I wouldn't say anything.

That's the chance you take when you live in a block of flats, overlooking a car park.

Even if he agreed to park elsewhere (and possibly annoy someone else), another truck/van could take that place eventually.

You can't ask everyone to park elsewhere.

I live in a flat in a leafy residential area, there are always 2 large flat bed recovery trucks, numerous commercial vans and and RV or 2 (no meth lab afaik) parked in the streets.

I suppose it seems like bad etiquette to park your large commercial vehicle in a residential area but I dont think there is an actual law against it so nothing anyone can do

Might be worth checking if he is allowed to park that type of vehicle in the car park (apologies if you have already...) I used to live in an apartment with communal car park and when we sold it the people buying specifically asked us to check if they were allowed to park their commercial van in the car park as they knew that sometimes this is not allowed.
