Posting here for traffic.

I dont drive so was possibly going with my parents ,sibling and my ds 11 months on a 2 and a half hour journey to see family later. I see them about three times a year. I said a couple of days ago I wasnt going as ds mostly screams and cries in the car. I am going on the train in a few weeks instead. Not today as the costs are high. Ds will have some food look at toys and listen to music for a short period but soon starts screaming until we pull over and i pick him up .

Everybody was really excited to see him apparantely but I only said I might go. I am sad that I am missing out but want to put ds first aibu and ofb to not think its worth risking incase he screams the whole way?

Well it's not pleasant but sometimes it's needed...I used to sit in the back next to my DD who also hated the car...

My DD would get absolutely hysterical in the car, it was awful. No way would I have gone on a 2 1/2 hour drive with her, it would be cruel.

DS screams in the car. We had an awful 2 hour journey at the weekend- we stopped twice but as it was the return journey we couldn't not do it. He screamed the whole time. He's worse if I'm in the back as he can see me but can't get to me and holding his hand, rubbing his tummy and face just makes it worse. If you are going soon on the train then yanbu to not go.

Rear-facing? I can't travel rear-facing on trains or buses as I get horribly travel-sick. Is it possible that's what's causing the problem here? Maybe get something to treat that and see if that helps things for the future?

But no, YWNBU to stay home or defer the trip.

My eldest used to scream his head off in the car. He grew out of it. The younger ones never did because they had someone else to entertain them.

Oh my goodness my oldest son used to do the same thing! It was awful, I don't blame you at all. He will grow out of it. Being front facing helped.

I have just saved up and purchased an extended rear facing seat as well, typical!

It may well not be the rear facing thing, and just that he dislikes being in the car. I wouldn't move from RF. But you still have to travel sometimes, could you put his seat in the front so he can see?

When mine were rearfacing I sat in the back with them. They were much happier with me next to them where they could see me. As OP says she doesn't drive, there is no reason she couldn't do this.
