AIBU?

Morning People

My mother and her partner seem to believe that everyone should be a morning person. This morning such encouragements as playing loud music, singing like twats at me, trying to make me laugh by prancing around the kitchen like a bull while her partner brandishes the red dishcloth and generally telling me off for looking grumpy.

I am a night owl and mornings are my nemesis. The fact that I am upright and have my eyes open is an achievement. AIBU not to be amused or join in with my mother and her partner's morning gurning?

They are grandparents and I am an adult of thirty something. Why can't we just be quiet and enjoy the peace of a Sunday morning.

I'm a morning person, and that sounds like hell. YANBU.

I am a morning person but have a very good friend who is the polar opposite.
She recognises that I will fall asleep at the dinner table after 9:30pm and I recognise that she won't make a breakfast at 7:30am.

I would suggest staying away from your mothers house until lunch time

I am a morning person but I don't feel the need to inflict it on others.

In fact one of my favourite things about being a morning person is that I can get some nice peace before anyone else gets up and starts hassling me!

Why would you have to join in?

If you are staying there - go back to bed. And maybe consider a hotel for your next visit.

If not - don't visit so early!

Yes the best bit about being a morning person in a house full of night owls is quiet mornings with a tea and silence.

Plus I'm the first to bed so I get the bed to myself for a bit

What time was this happening? If it's at 6am (naming no names DD2) then it's unreasonable. If it's at 9.30 am then how the hell do you get to work every day if you can't function at that time in the morning? I am a morning person and although I don't expect everyone to get up at the same time as me I do find guests who doesn't get up until after 10am fucking annoying and we don't make any effort to keep the kids quiet after about 8am. I want to get out and enjoy the day when we have guests, not sit about waiting for them to be human sometime in the early afternoon. Just go to bed before midnight for goodness sake. It's not hard.

Too early.
A) if you live there why are you up so early if you don't want to face them
B) if you don't live there why are you there so early?

None of us are morning. At weekends we make no arrangements before midday

I'm a morning person. I get really really sick of people expecting me to be chirpy or socialise after 9pm. But I deal with it. I'm a grown up. Just chill a bit OP

Been staying at my mother's because my health issues are in a flare right now. It's easier to look after myself and kiddos with a bit of support from mum. She is ridiculously cheerful in the morning though, when I'm all whiny and sore from sleeping and trying to get my body to uncurl and my kidneys working without the overnight agony they like to inflict. It takes time for my smile muscles to warm up enough to look jolly.

I'm not fit for work. I think for both my own sake and that of those in the workplace, the doctors made the right decision. Lol.

What time are you talking about?

You posted at 9.30 which, IMO isn't very early. Have you been up for 3 hours? Are they staying with you or are you still living with them?

Sorry, cross posted. It would have been more helpful if you had told us about your health issues in your initial post. I wouldn't have been so snippy in my response.

Hi OP
I'm a natural night owl and a spoonie. I wake up in agony most mornings. If I try to move to fast I can fall.
I get that morning people are already up and in full flow when I wake up but bloody hell, that schizz by your mum and her dp would annoy anyone. Not least those of us who wake up feeling like we've been beaten and battered in the night! You're there for her support? What isn't she understanding? Is she always like this? Also wake her and do the bull/grumpy thing to her around 1am, see how she takes it.

It can be habit I sometimes forget other households don't get up at 430-500 and find it hard to keep quite when staying with other people.

YANBU.

I'm such a morning person, my favourite hours of the day are 5am - 7am. But I adore the silence and peace at that time. Anyone singing and dancing in my face would get short shrift.

Mum knows I'm not all sweetness and light first thing, usually she's still trying to encourage me to be Maria Von Trapp. Last night she was out at a concert and was rather merry when she came in late (non alcohol related) and I thought maybe I'd get spared this morning.
