DS is 10. He's been moaning all week about everything and it's really grinding me down. He's generally quite negative and usually I can manage it but this week has been particularly bad. So despite a weekend of cinema, day trip to theme park, time spent together playing games, watching movies together, swimming, park craft stuff and friends... he's told me this evening that his life is terrible and there's nothing good in it (because he's had to spend the day in holiday club today while I'm at work- where he's played with friends/ computer/ watched tv/ craft....)

I want him to bed early as he was being such a pain (I did try to talk to him about it but he just grunts). DD 8 is not like this at all - but can pick up on it too.

He's got loads of Easter eggs left- I'm thinking if I eat them all he really will have something to moan about Wink

yabu to eat them without any warning.

why not ask him want he wants to do - not just play stuff, but see if he can get excited about planning a project - maybe the next trip somewhere or a big craft thing. He can plan the travel & organise & budget etc. Then he won't always expect you to provide entertainment.

I do that too. We usually have a calendar each holiday of what is happening each day which kids are involved in too- some things are a bit impromptu- some things they have no say as i have to work... but usually works.

I'm really not sure why he has been so bad this weekend. I've pretty much banned all electronics as I find that affects his mood/ behaviour but no change. I've given him plenty of opportunity to talk to me and tell me if anything is bothering him.
I'm usually really positive and I just find it such hard work.

I haven't had much time off this Easter so try to make the most of what I do have but tonight I just didn't want to be near him😕

I was very calm and explained to him that I was finding it difficult to deal with his mood. His life is really not bad at all.... here so frustrating.

He sounds depressed.

He sounds like an adolescent.

I think the woe-is-me is fairly typical for his age. Some get very hard done by, others develop an attitude to rival Vicky Pollard. Eat one egg and tell yourself in three years' time you get teenage proper and only another 7 or so until he will be lovely again.
