AIBU?

Sitting in the dark... Aibu?

Sitting in the dark, very cold. The power has been off since 2pm this afternoon and they have no idea when it'll come back on. I have no heating, no hot water. I can't even make a hot drink because everything runs on electricity.

Aibu to be fed up? I can't even do any work because I can't see! I've had nothing to eat since lunchtime.

They should have an idea of when your utilities will be back on.

Is there nothing on their websites?

Can you go out? Tesco cafe or anything? Fo a drink and warm food...

Go to the pub. And the chippy en route.

The website said 7pm but has now changed to basically say they'll update as soon as they know something. It was only meant to be off for an hour.

I think the Supermarket cafe will all be closed by now. I don't feel comfortable going out because all of my bras are stuck in the washing machine!

Aw, time to look at the Preppers thread and be better ready for another time Smile but no, yanbu, unpredictable power cuts are miserable sometimes.

Extra tight layers to make up for lack of bra maybe??

Do you live near me?! Ours went off around 3ish and came back on about 6pm. DP thought he was in for a treat when he got home and the living room was filled with candles!

We considered going for a pub tea, but ended up with takeaway. Hope you get warm & fed soon OP.

Have you no gas at all?

Everything is electric, no gas. They're saying 10pm now so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

do you not have anything you could eat cold or stuff to make sandwiches, why have you not eaten anything?

Power has been restored!

No, I didn't have any sandwich fixings. I shop on a Friday but had brought something in for tea- but it needed to go in the oven!

Do your electricity company not let you know when it is due to come back on? Ours sent a coffee van around once when the power was off for a while.

I work for q power company and know from experience that sometimes getting the power back on can be a 10 minute job or a 10 hour job. I suspect that you had a cable fault. A cable feeding your property and potentially quite a few others went faulty. The first problem is locating the fault. This takes time but once it's done, an estimated time to restore your power is relatively easy except that once the repair is done then you quite often find that another fault has happened because of he excessive current flow.

I know none of this makes you feel any better but the good news is that the regulator is pushing the companies hard on the average time to restoration and if it's going to be a really long time then they will supply generators. If you are elderly, disabled or have any very young children in the house then always phone in and let them know. They will prioritise these properties.
