AIBU?

to want using Mumsnet to be a relatively easy and straightforward experience?

  1. I have recently re-registered but have found I can't customise Talk so that I have all posts set out in one long thread with no pages. When I click on Customise, I only have options to look at threads as 25, 50 or 100 posts per page. Well thanks very much but I actually want 1,000 posts per page - when did that option disappear?

  1. I don't appear to be able to post on the Sex topic, even though Sex appears in my Active Conversations.

Why is this? What can I do to change it?

Thanks in advance Flowers

YABU - for the most, MN is relatively easy and straightforward. You've obv hit a glitch when you've re-registered. Get in touch with MN direct or post in site stuff. Don't post in AIBU and whine when it doesn't even sound as if you've approached MN yet for help.

No- it isn't a glitch. I don't think new posters can see 1000 posts and you have to be registered for 3 months or something before you can post in Sex.

It's to stop trolls in Sex.

Not sure why they stopped the 1000 posts.

  1. I have the option to select up to 1000 messages per page.
  2. Not sure I want to post on that topic. Going to: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/sex/2532284-who-the-fuck-thought-this-topis-would-be-a-good-addition-to-mn does give me the option of replying.

If you want to start a new thread in Sex topic, click this www.mumsnet.com/Talk/sex?call=NewConversationPage

Could it be some kind of limitation in the device you are using - maybe the parental controls need adjustment to allow you to post about sex!

I have the 1000 posts option. I use a browser on an ipad, are you using the ap? Could be a glitch there.

And you have to have been registered for 90 days before you can use the Sex topic, it's an anti-troll thing.

Repost in Site Stuff if you want MN to see this.

Stopping Sex Trolls... great idea.

I didn't realise that you had to be a member for 3 months before you can post on Sex....makes sense, stops trolls and bored teenagers!

Lol nannynick!

I am using my trusty laptop, which I have used for hundreds of years to post on Mn.

I suppose it's good that so-called newbies can't post in the Sex topic (??) but why can't we have 1,000 posts on one page if they like it like that?

Is it really to do with the number of clicks on a thread and the amount of revenue MN gets per click?

Not being able to see 1000 posts per page is irritating. I presume it's something to do with the speed of the website. If everyone is looking at pages with 867 posts it probably slows things down.

There's actually a thread in the sex topic atm, complaining that trolls are patient. Grin

Yes, but when did it change Mitzy? And when did hq tell us?

I thought threads could only be a max of 1000 posts, so there is no need for that option as having them all on one page gives the same result.

YABU, this isn't Site Stuff.

I only noticed it had changed after the hacking kerfuffle when I had to register with a new user name.

TheDuck - I'm not entirely sure what your point it, but there is now no option to have no pages within a thread that is more than 100 posts long. Or at least there isn't for me.

The thing about 1000 posts per page was that it was putting too much strain on the hamsters who power MNHQ's server, they're getting on a bit and their arthritis is playing up and they can't get round that wheel as fast as they used to.

MNHQ wanted to restrict us all to a max of 100 posts per page, but decided that this would result in a massed uprising of disgruntled posters. So they compromised on changing the settings for new members. They can only have 100 posts per page but they won't moan because they've never known any different. However when a long term poster reregs they get very cross and MNHQ's cover is blown.

The sex thing is just because you haven't been here for 3 months under your new is.

Ah, thank you Santa, very interesting.

Perhaps I'll have to go back to my old reg then.

Oh the 100 post thing is really bugging me. I had to -re-register and now cut down to a 100 per page instead of one 1000 continuous ream. Grrrrr!

Look MN its me. Look at my username. I've been here 7 years! Stop mucking about. I BET its something to do with all the advertising clutter on each page that's over burdening the ZX Spectrum servers they use.

Luckily I managed to reactivate my old email address and was able to re-register my old login, so back to 1000 posts per page.
