been helping family today who have external contracts with council and housing associations, and also run their own successful business along side this.
Roof repairs understandably have been quite literally through the roofs, however with winds in this region going to as much as 35mph, they still expect the tradesman to go out and fix there roofs NOW!
In trying to tell them that due to health and safety its not possible for them to go out and repair roofs today, however if and when the winds calm, then they would get out, to the roof repairs.
They have went out and helped all who has called them in doing their best to make properties water proof and even going out with hand saws to cut down fallen trees and fences and even helping the fire brigade on 101 calls, they are doing the best they can in horrible weather conditions. Most council and associations are on limited weekday staffing, and even then they cannot physically get up on the roofs as its too dangerous.
However they have been called all sorts, been physically pushed and verbally abused when attending calls, been told they are going to slate their business publicly as they have left them with holes in their roofs etc... and no way can they have holes in their roof until the weather calms down.
I understand its stressful, however do people honestly expect trademan to endanger their lives to fix their roofs.
My poor uncles and cousins have been working since 4pm yesterday evening and are still working now.
I can post a video to this page, so you can see the wind they are dealing with, its bloody horrific here.
Sorry for the rant, I am just astounded what they and the emergency services are dealing with today, one tradesman came into the office to bandage himself up after a fence came back on his leg and tore it badly in trying to make the fence safe, as it fell over on a public walkway, the owner of the property was verbally abusing him as he could not fix his fence.
I know council and associations and tradesman get slated at times, however please mind that in these weather conditions, they cannot risk their own lives to get a repair done.
