Just received the songs (and script!!) for the Christmas performance...

It's still 3 weeks away but my newly turned 3 year old stands no chance of learning 5 songs and lines as well?

He is a new intake as a place came up early and he is just weeks into being 3. He doesn't know any songs at all, bless him - not even Twinkle Twinkle etc..

Shall I give it a go or not even waste my time? They are all well known songs (although from varying era's so DS wouldn't be familiar with any baring maybe one from a Disney film, but we've never seen the film!!) and to over complicate the issue the lyrics have been changed somewhat.

It's a lot to ask of a 3yo?

ETA he doesn't have individual lines, they are lines by class I think

aww bless him. my dd is young in her year too. Id do whatever is fun for him with it my kids will mumble along with totally wrong words to the radio then sing out loudly on the chorus etc. Just whatever he finds fun and so he's joining in I suppose.

Certainly songs are generally picked up swiftly by preschoolers ime. Lines - not so much.

Bless! That is a bit of a big ask. Just encourage him to smile and face the audience - that should be enough.

The DT's are in nursery and turned three in August. They have been singing songs for the past week at school in preparation for their sing a long session next week (just nursery and reception) and I was actually amazed that they know the words to all the songs as they didn't learn any last year as too little and i've not started playing my christmas cd on repeat just yet.

I would definitely give it ago but just tell him if he forgets the words to just smile at everyone.

Our school never asked to practice at home.

At 3 ds was a donkey, forgot most of song lines. But it was wonderful.

I'd just sing the songs to him over the next few weeks and hopefully he'll pick some of them up. I doubt they'll be expecting the little ones to know everything.

We've just done our nativity at school (am a music teacher) and my 3 year old learnt all the words to the songs in two weeks, and I would say the vast majority of them (60 children) had learnt the words within 3. Their brains are like sponges!

Don't worry about it. They'll play a tape with the songs being sung and the little ones will bellow along. Go over the lines but don't kill yourself - the teachers will prompt them at the right time.
