www.closeronline.co.uk/2015/03/couple-name-their-child-abcde-much-to-facebook-s-horror

www.vocativ.com/culture/society/people-named-abcde/

How on earth do you pronounce this?

LizKeen Wed 02-Dec-15 15:51:41

It says in your second link its pronounced Absidee.

Bit odd. Bit like Nevaeh. Not something I would even consider.

ludog Wed 02-Dec-15 15:53:34

I prefer Hijklmnop myself, but each to their own and all that.

DonkeyOaty Wed 02-Dec-15 15:59:18

YZ would be okay. Prn Why-Zee.

MyNameIsNotAbcde Wed 02-Dec-15 15:59:59

hahah - i'm a dopey soul! I missed that!

i don't mind the way that sounds to be honest, Absidie..

StarkyTheDirewolf Wed 02-Dec-15 16:00:14

But would that pronounced be 'haitch' or 'aitch' ludog grin

ludog Wed 02-Dec-15 16:03:33

Neither...the h is silent. It's actually pronounced Graham

YakTriangle Wed 02-Dec-15 16:07:14

Raymond Luxury-Yacht

StrawberryTeaLeaf Wed 02-Dec-15 16:09:21

Vwxyz sounds more feminine.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions Wed 02-Dec-15 16:14:23

How to pronounce Hijklmnop
Well "van hijk" is surname pron hidge-kuh like fridge just without the fr and with a kuh on the end,
And the end would be nop (rhymes with mop and hop)
So hidge-Kuh-elem-nop

PaulAnkaTheDog Wed 02-Dec-15 16:16:06

I prefer lmno (Elle-emeno).

FattyNinjaOwl Wed 02-Dec-15 16:17:32

Surely hijklmnop is pronounced water-p?

StarkyTheDirewolf Wed 02-Dec-15 16:17:44

Neither...the h is silent. It's actually pronounced Graham

grin Makes perfect sense to me!

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant Wed 02-Dec-15 16:24:40

sjane03 Wed 02-Dec-15 16:38:21

I met a abcde recently she was a adult living in the UK and I only realised when I had to write her name down.

mutantninja Wed 02-Dec-15 16:40:21

Qwertyuiop is pretty.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler Wed 02-Dec-15 16:52:08

Seriously? Abcde?

A FB friend has recently announced her unborn baby will be called Princess Nevaeh. I thought that was bad enough - but Abcde wins Silly Names Top Trumps hands down.

IoraRua Wed 02-Dec-15 16:54:04

I read a book once with a character called lmnop. Ellemenohpee. I don't think it's great for a real person though...

BicycleGasoline Wed 02-Dec-15 16:57:12

Ella Minnow Pea! That's the lmnop book. I love it!
Wouldn't name a child lmnop though!

MyNameIsNotAbcde Wed 02-Dec-15 16:57:41
