To anyone who wants to have a new puppy for Christmas.
The dogs trust advert for Christmas.
So simple yet hopefully effective.
I miss having a dog and cant wait until we get one again but wait we will. The time is not right yet

I used to work in a rescue and the two stories that stick in my mind was a little dog given up because she doesn't match the curtains anymore (they redecorated) and polly.
Polly was an elderly terrier who had lived with her family since puppy hood. The couple had recently retired and decided to start camping. Polly didn't like it. So they got rid. Didn't even look back at her when they left. Even my boss had trouble keeping her mouth shut in that case. Luckily polly was rehomed quickly

Bravo OP, totally true.

I am taking on my friends 2 cats but not until after Christmas as really Christmas isn't a time to take on a new pet.

Poor Polly :(
I can't believe some people can be so heartless. Sadly people do buy pets as gifts. They are not accessories, they are living creatures. :(

Good advert. Goes for cats too.

I am the owner of Sparklingcat because her owner had a baby and she was surplus to requirements. Sad

Don't understand why people have pets if they're not going to love and care for them Confused. Why else would you want one?! Same goes for kids I suppose!

I think for some people pet ownership doesn't turn out to be what they envisaged. Cute puppies and kittens become larger dogs and cats and not as cute any more.

The novelty wears off...

Cats are worse I think. Dogs are usually £000 so if you get approved by a rescue, it can be cheaper.

Unless you want a pedigree you can pick kittens up for around £10. Sometimes free. Why would you go to a rescue and pay more? Poor cats can end up dying in rescue as no homes for them

It really annoys me. The cat rescue i volunteer for charges £55 for a cat or kitten. That includes, healthcheck, vaccinations, neutering, and microchip transfer and a month's insurance. It would cost so much more to get a free cat and have to pay for all that, but people don't see it. Sad

Don't get me started on those who have one litter "because everyone should be able to be a mummy" Also winds me up when they refuse to neuter the males as its not right. Usually men with that one

There are some very strange attitudes to pet ownership in general I think.
