To be totally annoyed about this??

I only work 1 day a week. The place I work said there's some temporary work for another two days for 3 months (not consecutive) and would I be interested in applying. I sorted out willing childcare so I could earn a few more pennies should I be successful.

Interview this morning, they explained the month they would want me would be December, January & June/July. I went through the interview, giving answers, examples as I've had many years of experience in a very similar post, as well as shown I had done research by answering a question on the 'values' of the company.

I told them I was pg because I thought being honest and open was the best thing especially as I know them and as the job I do with them involves some lifting so they would've had to know today anyway. I'm due in July but said I worked up to my due date last time and this job is a sitty down job so should be ok.

So immediately after the interview they were whispering, I heard them say they'd have to ask advice.

Half an hour later one said 'did she agree?' And the other nodded.

Half an hour later I get told I didn't get the extra hours as the other candidate scored higher.

Now I'm not trying to be big headed, but I have 10 years of experience in a similar setting, have a degree and postgrad degree, hold my Microsoft office specialist certificates ( which was a specific question), gave examples of scenarios when asked, and said the correct things when they asked a couple of job-specific questions (as I've worked here and observed). And I already work in the office and vaguely know my way around the new job.

The only other candidate was a student, 20 yrs old, no work experience. I'm not saying she can't do the job but they've said they want someone who could just slot in straight away and not train much.

I'm probably raging because of hormones or something, but I swear it's because I told them I'm pregnant! I just want out of here ASAP today!!! Roll on 5pm!!!!

Sorry for the rant & epic post!

That sounds very fishy, and I would be contacting hr.

Sounds very fishy to me.

Not sure what you should do though. Maybe see if you can get some legal advice, or see what advice is available for government websites etc. Or the CAB?

It might be that you can ask for a breakdown of the scores, if they claim the other scored higher, but I don't know.

I fail to see how the other candidate scored higher than you.

I would 100% put it down to your pregnancy.

Thanks everyone. I think I just wanted to have a rant and make sure I wasn't being completely doolally.

I don't think it's worth taking it further as it was only temporary but has totally put me off this company now...don't really want to work for them any more knowing their values are like this. The job has to be flexible over the days too - how can a student over exam period and with classes be flexible??

I will concentrate on calming down for my little baby!!xx

If it's a temp role and they definitely need those dates covered you have to see it from their point of view. If it was a permanent full time role I'd be in to HR but I think you need to let this one slide. They can't get in a temp for a temp if something happens to you can they?
Sorry if that sounds harsh and you are right to be cross but I'd leave it.

Defo not taking it further strawberry but am just annoyed. I could've done all of the dates unless baby decided to come about 2 weeks early, my first was 12 days late (not that that's certain to happen again!)

I know I need to calm down and chill out, it's not like it was a permanent dream job!

First babies are often late. Second babies are unpredictable. I had to go off in maternity leave at 27 weeks because I developed anaemia and just couldn't even breathe, let alone work.

I say go have something yummy and forget all about it SmileX

Update - I have now been offered it as the first candidate has decided to withdraw. I'm so suspicious! I need to not have such a suspicious mind.
