Parking Hitler's - aibu to stand firm

I have found myself living across from a parking hitler (they think they own the road outside their house don't you know Hmm ). His parents have lived there for years, moved in not long from us, they don't chat to many people, we actually joked when they 1st moved in they were in witness protection as you hardly see them out. He has now moved back in with them, so now they own 5 cars and a work van between 3 of them. 2 on their drive, the others on the road outside.

The only time I see them out in the front is if 1 of them is going out, someone will move their car off the drive to save their space on the road. most of the neighbours have commented on it and it wasn't until 1 of them mentioned that I even noticed, this in itself I find strange but whatever passes the time for them.

So a few weeks ago I came home, someone was parked outside my house - not a problem plenty of other spaces, (I live opposite an office block, terraced street, weird neighbours live next to the office block) I parked by the office block, taking up 1 of their spaces, didn't think to much of it as its a free road.

The next day The son - I say son he's 34, had parked right up to my bumper, touching it, noticed it didn't think too much of it then went to work, came home and they had moved the car off the drive into that space, found somewhere else to park.

Its now been going on like this for weeks, If I cannot park outside my house this is the only other free space so if they're not using it im free to park there, yet every time I do he parks right up to my bumper, so when I get in it and put it into reverse I feel the car go down slightly as if its been pushed up by his car. Ive gone and tried to speak to them but they don't answer the door, I've put a note through the door asking him to not block my car so much, if someone parks behind me then im blocked in (as I was the other week)! Rather than come and ask me not to park there he uses this aggressive technique of bullying me into moving. So how do you deal with parking hitler's who think they own the whole road. Would you just not park there or stand your ground that its a free road to park wherever I like! I'm siding with parking wherever I want but dp says don't cause trouble, I'm not actually doing anything wrong though?

If you are not too precious about your car then bash into his every time he parks too close. Bash it quite a lot

I'm not sure what you can do about this, and I'm sure others will be along to advise shortly, but I would photograph the cars next time he does his bumper-to-bumper trick, and start keeping a log of incidents. I'm not sure if this constitutes some sort of legal nuisance or harassment. Maybe something your local community police officer could help with?

Get your keys out and SCRATCH THE FUCKERS UP.

I don't know what else, I'm not that reasonable of an adult.

PS. I agree that you should be able to park anywhere in your road, and this is unacceptable behaviour from another resident.

Make an incredibly massive show of photographing his car blocking you in from all angles and knock EVERY TIME he does it and leave a note if they don't answer.

DrivingMissLazy1 · 13/11/2015 17:23

Nothing you can do unfortunately.
When you were blocked in, did you knock on thier door and ask them to move thier car up a bit?

"I'm not that reasonable of an adult."

"I'm not an adult."

Fixed that sentence.

OP I have been in the same situation, But there is nothing that you can do against arseholes like this.

Stick a mini security camera in your car, make it look like you are filming.
Park there every time there is a space just to annoy them. That's what I do with our stupid neighbors who think they own the road outside their house .

Our neighbors will take their car off the drive and park it on the road outside their house if they think other people will park there, and they have form for leaving notes telling people not to park there too. Dimwits.

mumofsnotbags · 13/11/2015 18:05

Yep fitzbilly they do that do, so irritating! They once did it for a week while they went on holiday leaving their driveway free??

I have tried knocking to no avail, they do not answer the door to anyone. I spoke to another neighbour who stopped me to ask had I seen how close to my car he was parking, I said yes and now I park they intentionally to annoy him even more. I think I'll carry on doing that, unlucky for hi Ive got no plans to go anywhere this weekend so car is staying put, superglued to his bumper at present by the looks of it, as soon as he moves his car - (which he wont, he has 3 others to choose from) Im going to go and move it a few inches.

*also did think of scratching his car to bits, had a look in the light and somebody already beat me to it. In fact I recall a few years ago before he moved out, it was parked on the drive and 3 people threw paint stripper all over it, he had it resprayed and its the same car now but obviously has history for parking like an arrogant twat! - and they have cameras on their house Sad

I find it quite depressing that there are people whose lives are so small that they go to the effort of moving cars around to save 'their' space on the road.

If someone has blocked you in, aren't you within your rights to bounce their car out of the way? If you can get people (from the office, for example) to help you?

I know people used to do this. My Mum blocked somebody in, in the 1980s, while she went to a hypnosis evening class. Someone came round to ask whose car it was, but she didn't hear because she was in a trance, so they lift bumped it out of the way.

I'd be tempted to let their tyres down each time they do this.

Then again I'm really tired so am being rather irrational in my post Smile

I know. For months afterwards when she asked why we hadn't tidied our rooms or done our chores when we were asked, we said 'Sorry, didn't hear you, I was in a trance'. Grin

Feel your pain OP, we have one of these too. They have a massive house, and drive, 1 car, 1 obscenely sized Merc truck and a van between the 2 of them. There is a space outside their house big enough for 2 cars, they always swap their cars around and park one of theirs (usually the massive truck) in the middle of the space. So effectively claiming the 2 spaces outside their house for their own, despite the fact that they could easily park all 3 on their drive. They annoy everyone down the road, to the point that someone has keyed their truck. It's a very naice road too.

Petty people, petty lives. The tone was set when they were doing up their house before they moved in for a YEAR, and their builders took the piss considerably. They didn't care. We used to frequently ring the 101 number (at the police's request) because they'd double and triple park completely blocking the pavement and half of the road. It drove me mad because I had a baby in a buggy and a toddler to take on the school run at the time, and couldn't get safely past. I was told by the owner when I complained to him at various times to "get a life" and "just cross over the bloody road". Mmm, thanks for that. Not that easy to cross over a busy road at school drop off time with 3 small children. Twice.

I'd put a note through saying you have been photographing his parking in relation to your vehicle and will be passing his details to your insurance company for the claim against him for damage to your bumper.

Might make him think again.....

Attach a detachable bike rack to the rear of your car -they are bloody massive (my parents have a 3 bike one on the back of their micra that sticks out a long way). He won't be able to get close enough to block you in without damaging his van and it will irritate the fuck out of him. You can easily detach the rack when you want. Or a big old towbar/rooftop ladders.
Seriously though, this would really annoy me. I would have to keep parking there, I couldn't let him bully me out. I would also visibly take photos of his parking and record him if I could.

Can you park further forward so there isn't space for him to park at all? We used to have a parking twat outside ours who would park in the middle of a 2 space stretch so nobody else could fit in. He doesn't even live on our road. My neighbour was all set to let his tyres down.

He sounds like a bellend... Love the dash cam but not sure what use it'll be in the long run. You really don't want to end up in a cure with someone like this though. He sounds like the type of twat who would get a dog just to wind you up by letting it shite infront of your house. Tit for tats like this can go very badly wrong in the long term.

What's that paint you can get to stop people climbing up your walls... Could you put that on your bumper so his car gets covered in it every time he butts up against yours (I'm good at the sensible advice but rarely resist the urge for a bit of tit for tat in rl.... I blame my brothers ;)

We have one of these opposite us. She has a gated drive but doesn't use it because she fills it with garden ornaments.

Our boundary is quiet long as we head off onto another row at 90 degrees.

Plenty of space or so you would think. No there's her car her adult childrens cars as well as partners, oh of course she expects any visitors to be able to park there too.

Every time we park the nets of her house twitch, if she is is outside she looks at us with a face full of rage and disgust. How dare we take one of her parking spots. She then will manage to scrape the car with hers every time she drives away no matter how close to hers it is, even if its parked a few spaces down.

She refuses to engage in any way other than glaring and "accidental damage".

I feel sorry for her tbh if that's all she has in her life that she's going to let an inanimate object get her so wound up.

YABU to refer to someone as 'Hitler' over a parking issue.

They're parking in an annoying fashion, not setting up a concentration camp.
