To be concerned about school?

Ds started senior school in September. From a 'feeder' junior school.

They have finally given us login details. Username and passwords.

This gives access to info about your own dcs.

I logged on to check (first, to check I could!) what homework ds has chosen to ignore this week.

Found the homework. Saw what had been done and what hasn't yet.

Looked through the rest of the stuff on there. Attendance. Lates. Personal info.

Checked it, as I was already logged in. They had my ex down as an emergency contact. He hasn't lived with us for 4 years. He lives 100 miles away with no car. Ds would rather starve/have untreated injuries/sleep on the school floor/anything than go anywhere with his df. And he knows how awful his df is when driving!

But why would the school have him as an emergency contact? I left the df spaces blank on applications. Junior school had his df as a contact until he left. Then he got removed.

Also, phone numbers. I gave up my landline not long after the ex left. Wasn't worth paying £20 a month for something I didn't use! Had unlimited free calls on my mobile!

Somebody has filled in my old phone number, with a note saying "form says none".

I assume the juniors have passed on this information?

And I think I have to go in to the school to ask them to correct it, as there is no 'delete' option on their website. Angry

Just take in the correct information and ask them to amend your details. I'd be surprised if there was anything sinister about it.

High schools get into passed directly from primary, usually 'fed in' directly to the system if in the same LA. I would expect that prior to September you should have been sent a data sheet to complete to update or a new admissions booklet. This info would then need to be manually corrected on the school info system. If you have had something like this and not completed it the incorrect info could be down to the transfer of info taking place before you updated the primary school. If you have completed and returned info to the high school they are possibly getting round to it as there will be a lot to update but it should be done by now, so phone call needed. Cake as this sort of thing is so irritating.

There are various courses of action open to you and doubtless a queue of posters will form recommending an outraged complaint to Ofsted, your MP and the Queen. Alternatively, you could just contact the school and ask them to update their records.

I can understand your annoyance but you and your son may hate him, but the school wouldn't know that. And even if they did, he would still be next of kin with associated rights unless a court order said otherwise.

Did you fill in your mobile number on the seniors form? I can well see why the seniors would ask the juniors for a number, any number, if the space was blank.

Similarly, if your DC's father has PR, the school will, I believe, by law have to list him as a contact unless there is a court order to state otherwise. I know that the system used by my own DC's schools meant that anyone with PR was listed as a contact so reports and the like could've sent to them, which automatically made them an emergency contact. I was advised by one of the schools to give them as many alternate realistic emergency contacts to 'bump' their father down the list so it was unlikely he would ever actually be contacted, but he had to be on the list somewhere.

I would check with the school that it isn't something like that before going in and complaining. Approach it from an "I noticed this which doesn't seem right, can you explain why this has happened please?" sort of way.

Cat, I was thinking the queen should indeed save me the hassle of a phonecall!

I will go and speak to the nice lady on the reception desk. She helped me before, when I couldn't log in.

I gave them the only phone number I have. My mobile. They have used this to contact me. This was on the registration form I filled in (June last year).

I had to fill it in on the website thing today.

They have no way of contacting the ex. He broke his mobile and never bothered to replace it. About 2 years ago...

I have copies of school reports (as I was told it was my responsibility to let him see them), waiting for him, when he asks. And gives me the address if his latest GF to send them to.

Why can't anything be simple?
