AIBU?

Someone shoved sausages through my car window!

I stopped at the corner shop to pick up some milk. My 2 dogs were in the back of my car, both windows open a couple of inches.

When I got back, Little Dog was sniffing at something intently. I looked around to see a large sausage sitting on the top of the seat!

I opened the back door to investigate, and found 2 more sausages on the floor. Thankfully they had fallen between the seat and the floor, so the dogs couldn't get them.

I flung them out onto the street. I had a good look around to see if anyone was watching me, there didn't seem to be anyone. There were a few kids playing in the park nearby, but they weren't paying any attention to me. I have no idea whether the dogs had eaten any. Didn't seem to have done, but there could have been more sausages...?

Who does that? Who happens to have 3 perfectly good sausages to spare, to randomly donate to a couple of dogs? But then doesn't stick around to see the dogs eating them? I was worried they might have been poisoned or something.

Was I unreasonable to fling them out of the car, or should I have let my dogs enjoy them?!

I think you were right to chuck them - better safe than sorry.

I would be worried that someone was trying to poison your dogs.
I hope they are ok.

Totally weird.

If you were worried that they might have been poisoned, why did you fling them out into the street, for another passing dog to snarf?

But it was probably just a strange do-gooder Smile

You were wrong to 'fling them in the street' couldn't you have put them in a bin or bagged them and thrown them away at home?

If you suspected they were poisoned why would you leave them for another animal to eat?

It could have been a well meaning, but foolish, person trying to spoil your dogs or someone trying to harm them. However I'm very shocked that you were so concerned about your dogs but gave no thought to the possible risk to other animals!

God this is literally the first time that has occurred to me! I feel bad now! My instinct was just to get rid of them and get out of there. I was more creeped out that someone might be watching me, waiting for a reaction.

I also had a vague thought that they were probably ok and some other animal could enjoy them. It was only after that it occurred to me they could have been drugged.

I was on my way home from the vets, one of the dogs had been very sick (forgot to mention that bit), so wasn't thinking very clearly. I just went into protect and flee mode!

Also, I'm a lifelong vegetarian, so I was a bit grossed out by them and didn't want to be wandering about with them trying to find a bin.

But I should have put them in a bag and binned them. Feel bad now.

I bet it was a kindly dog lover who saw your dogs and decided to give them what they saw a a treat. Probably wouldnt have occured to them that the owner would think it weird or scarey .

No problem eddie I do feel bad for flinging them now, I was just creeped out.

They looked like perfectly good sausages (the sort you get from a chippy. They were cooked). Who would waste them?

I reckon it was kids messing about, probably thought they were doing something nice for my dogs.

My dogs probably think I was vvvvvv unreasonable to deny them this unexpected bounty!

I would suspect the kids playing on the street had shoplifted the sausages en and given them to your dogs. But then this is the kind of thing i would have done as a kid.

Were they cooked sausages?

I'm sure there was a story locally about dogs being poisoned with meat - are you in SE London?

Report
UnGoogleable · 08/11/2015 13:00

Yes they were cooked.

No, not in SE London. God that's scary, poisoned with meat? What's wrong with people?

Actually just googled it and seems there were cases in Surrey and they were poisoned with sausages stuffed with blue slug pellets. Possibly a narrow escape there.

You did the right things. But your dogs are quietly plotting revenge to the madman who would throw a sausage away. Imagine what they must have thought
