To go to a&e?

Pretty sure I've broken my big toe.

I thought there was nothing to be done for broken toes but as the swelling/bruising was getting worse I rang my GP for advice - they said I need to go to A&E for an xray.

Any docs or radiographers on here who agree? I don't want to waste anyones time, either way I won't be going until I finish my shift at 7am.

Part of me thinks I should go for my previously broken foot is playing up too now but the other part thinks, yes it hurt more than anything ever but it's only a bloomin' toe!

I broke my big toe last May. My son tripped me up and I actually felt it snap. I didn't get it xrayed even though it crunched when I walked for 6 months. I mentioned it to the dr a year after the event and she wasn't happy with the fact that I hadn't had it looked at. She sent me for an X-ray but I haven't been Blush

It aches like a fucker now sometimes and still hurts if I catch it. I expect arthritis will be coming my way soon.

So yes, go to a&e and have someone look at it. I wish I had!

Toes are important! I'd follow your GP's advice. Should be quiet at 7am anyway.

Yeah big toes are important. The rest of them not so much apparently.

Go and get it seen to.

I've broken every toe on both feet at one point or another, didn't bother getting them seen to. None of them bend now.

Plus marrow and stuff in your blood is a bad thing, didn't know this when I broke mine over the years. Follow GP's advice and go get seen.

Big toes are treated. Go to A&E

Yes. Go to A&E. They can fix a big toe. It's the others that aren't so important.

Thank you gamer! I broke the toe next to the little one the other day and have ignored it since. Was just reading these responses thinking "shit, should I have done something about that then?" Grin

Big toes - definitely go. I've had surgery on both my big toes for arthritis in the joints, never had them checked when they got broken by horses standing on them and am now suffering the consequences.

Can your GP not refer you for an xray? Mine did (hospital has a walk-in imaging department for people who have GP referrals.

Mine was for a foot injury - not my big toe - which as it turns out was actually fractured.. still having problems and physio with it now

They said nothing about referals just to pop down - at least it gives my feet a chance to be looked at as I don't think they ever properly healed from the stilletos that went thru them

Consider me told!
