Not a TAAT per se but inspired by one over on chat

why oh why advertise your own, erm, piece of writing on MN by pretending to be someone you are not... do you not know we are a nest of vipers who see through these things easily Wink Grin

especially when you have a history of not being everyone's favourite lactation support adviser (Guardian column c. 2009, yes I'm looking at you)

SOrry. Didnt want to accuse anyone unfairly of anything so didnt give much detail purposely.

was on chat earlier when a poster started a thread basically saying "everyone read this excellent book by [author name]" and how it would change your life. seemed remarkably like said poster was indeed author. who by some coincidence is not MN's flavour of the month when it comes to breastfeeding..

I saw that thread and assumed it was by the author of the book. It seemed a bit sad and desperate to me...

There is the plug hole for all that.

It's in other stuff I think.

didn't say it to necessarily have it pulled/cause alarm, more just because it was an entertaining read Smile and a warning of sorts re how self promotion on mn can go a bit wrong

Bit like the ones pleading 'Ooh, please can someone tell me where can I buy...?'. Within the first half-dozen posts will be someone who knows where to get the hard-to-find item, and who provides a link to the website.

The OP then come back on a day later, having just taken suspiciously quick delivery of the marvellous product they were looking for, full of praise for the fantastic service and helpfully providing a link to the website again.

Not that I'm cynical or anything...

Yes exactly dodo!

It's the oldest trick in the book - fair enough if it's a good product but just be open about it.

It's the effusive praise I think that I'm most watchful of: "this changed my life!" especially when no-one has mentioned the item before

Have a look paula i might be barking up the wrong tree here. but it looks pretty transparent to me. Funny too how these posters always choose chat as well with its high traffic rather than S&B/adult fiction etc. etc. Wink

Ho hum, rant over
