AIBU to ask for your ideas for my daughters 7th birthday?

Hi! I'm a bit new to this, long time lurker but never a poster, so I hope this topic hasn't been done to death!

I'm really stuck for ideas for my 7 year old daughters birthday. She's has a couple of big parties (whole class) the last two years and really didn't seem to enjoy them :( so I was thinking maybe something smaller with 8-10 friends this year! She's quite girly, and into making things!

She seemed quite keen on a Montezumas chocolate party - has anyone had one of these? Or is there anything similar out there?

Or maybe something where she could make bath bombs or something?

Any suggestions welcome.

My girls have loved having a few friends round to paint ceramic owls/cupcakes etc- baker Ross catalogue was great. I agree that full class parties are not as enjoyable!

When my DD was 7 we did a craft party at home.

We had about ten children - all girls from her class. I got:

• plain white T-shirts from Tesco, on offer at the time for about £1 each
  
• plain white masks from Baker Ross
  
• plain white head bands from Hobbycraft I think.
  

At the start of the party I gave each girl a bag containing one of each of the above and then on a large table I set out a selection of fabric pens (for the T-shirts), felt tips, glue and various crafty bits and bobs like sequins, glitter, felt shapes etc. The idea was that they would each decorate their own T-shirt, mask and headband. Oh I had beads to be strung for necklaces too.

After about an hour they had tea while I ironed in the fabric paint on the T-shirts and then we had a "fashion parade" where they all got to put on their own stuff and show off what they had made.

It seemed to go down quite well and wasn't really that expensive to do compared to the sort of thing we had done previous years where we hired an entertainer and a hall.

Craft parties are great and it's so much cheaper to do your own. Plain bags can be decorated and then everything they make can go in them. I have done badge making, cake decorating, t shirts, sewing, there are so many kits to choose from.

Yellow Moon/Baker Ross are good but so are Wilko's.

Pizza making parties are also fun- either at home or you can book one at pizza hut.

My friend's daughter just had a build a bear party at home and loved it. My dd went to a party where they made a pot, ate party food while it was fired, then painted it - she loved that.

I was going to suggest pottery painting. There are several places in our local area and when dc are older I'd like to try it.
I'm very crafty myself and make wedding invitations/cards/gifts etc as a 'job' while I'm a SAHM so the craft parties at home sound brilliant to me and something your dd would like.

i would do a dressing up party, and lots of party games including some craft

For my DD's 6th birthday (lots of 7 year old guests) we had a 'Flour Fairy Cooking Party'. Hired a hall. Booked someone who offered this party. It was great. The girls dressed up as fairies, then decorated chef's hats and made a fairy pizza (actually half a pizza, cut into 2 quarters, arranged as fairy wings). These went in the oven in batches, while they made a dessert (banana split with strawberries and sprinkles). There were games and dancing, and they made 'cocktails' in plastic glasses with straws and umbrellas.

The best part, IMO, was that someone else led the party, so I just made sure everyone was having fun and tidied up a few bits. And handed out the party bags.

I went to Poundland and bought hola hoops for my DD's birthday. I gave them out to her friends to play with in the garden and they took them home instead of party bags. Big hit.

Dd is 7. Parties she has really enjoyed recently include:

Bowling
Build a beer
Ceramic cafe
Dress up tea party

We are currently thinking about her 8 birthday party and are considering:
Kidszania with a few friends.
Climbing at local centre
Roller disco.

For my dds 7th birthday she took a couple of friends to build a bear, they were allowed to choose a bear and a top for it to wear. The staff made a real fuss as it was her birthday and they loved the whole process of making the bears. We had McDonalds afterwards. Wasn't very expensive as she only invited 3 friends and would have payed the same or more for a party (plus none of the other kids had done this before) x

I gave my 7 yo a choice - party with her friends or a big treat (theatre tickets, trip to Legoland) and had a smaller celebration of one or two friends home for a meal ...

My DD is going to an art party this week. And bowling has been a popular choice this year in her class. On Saturday her own 7th birthday party is a glass painting with a local artist for 5 of them, followed by an at-home birthday tea. While it's becoming more 'grown up' and moving away from soft-plays, they still want some party games (I think it's for the prizes!).

Another recommendation for build a bear. I did this for my son's 7th, it was brilliant. You set a budget and you only pay for what you buy - no extra charge for the party host etc. My son had 3 friends and his siblings, they all chose a bear, named it etc, (the heart ceremony etc) chose a t shirt, played some games, sung Happy Birthday, and my son got a free little birthday cake accessory with light up candle, and they took a photo of them all and put it in a magnetic frame for us, again free. I set a budget of £20 per child which was stuck to rigidly, in fact it came in a little under that. The kids all loved their bears and I felt like my money was well spent and everyone had something lovely to take home. My son absolutely loved it and one of his friends asked everyone for BAB accessories for his birthday for the bear he made at my sons party. I cannot recommend it highly enough!
