posting here for traffic.

when my 12 year old was younger he used to sleep walk/ have night terrors. it was really obvouse.

with my 8 year old im not sure what to make of it. he gets up in the night to go to the toilet. he gos up and down the stairs about 4 times sometimes i have to take him by the hand and take him to the toilet. other times he finds his own way. sometimes he just gets back in his own bed and thats it. other times hes ended up in my bed or his sisters bed. The other night he done all the pacing then went to get into my bed. my older son said to him what are you doing. younger son said: in a min. got in my bed and was a sleep. he never remembers it in the morning.. not sure if hes sleep walking or just very tried... it normally happens 90 mins to 2 hours after hes gone to bed.

My son used to do this at a similar age - ended up in anyone and everyone else's bed, shut himself in the porch and peed in the airing cupboard amongst many other things.
There was often something he was interested in or concerned over - a school project he was planning, something he had to remember etc. It went on for about a year and then just stopped. He never remembered any of it and was most confused if he lasted the night in the wrong bed and woke up there!!!
The important thing is to make sure he is safe - we always left landing light on all night as I was concerned about stairs and locked the door into the porch and removed key after porch incident. Unusual sounds in the night would wake me and I could walk him back to his room but I was not always aware of him getting into the wrong bed until its true occupant complained!

I would say he is sleep walking. My df did, I do and my dds do. My girls often have conversations which don't really make sense. If it helps neither if them have ever come to any harm and they grew out of night terrors and now only sleep walk very occasionally.

Thanks i thought it was. it was about the same age as when my other son done it. with other son it was like he was trying to escape a night mare used to try climb out of window the look of terror on his face was horrible. it used to make my daughter cry. At lease with this sun its more general not scary just odd. i will make sure sure i takee keys out of doors though

It does sound like sleepwalking, it can present in many different forms. Is there anything he might be worried about that's playing on his mind? Maybe get him to write down feelings or draw in a notebook before bed to get out any worries or negative thoughts (helped with my DS)

My 8 yo DS do this too, you can sort of communicate with him but he never remembers it in the morning and has a sort of glazed look about him!

ffs last night he went to the toilet but ended up weeing on my landing ffs.

somoene i know recons i should take him gp. he says when people sleep walk they carry out simple tasks and are semi awear of where they are. so son should be able to find the toilet. so there might be an under lying issue. I don't agree i think in his sleep he thought was in the toliet. first time the wee thing has happend so probably not worth the fuss. hope it was a one of though :/ i don't see any point in taking him to gp. just for them to say he will grow out of it

My 10 yo DS sleep walks has been doing it for the last 6-7 weeks. They are getting worse before he would just have random conversations and I could guide him back to bed, now he has starting arguing back in his sleep. He never remembers anything in the morning. It started when a family friend passed away, then stopped for a few days and started again.
It might be worth asking if anything is worrying him, I ahve had all of these chats with him, so has DH and his teacher.
I spoke to the GP and they weren't very helpful (could just be mine) said that he will grow out of it, and to contact school nurse if I still had concerns.

Ds did this at about 8 years. Peed in all sorts of strange places and then back to bed in his, his sisters, his brothers, ours, whatever. He grew out of it. I honestly don't think it's anything to worry about.

I did stuff like this. Not uncommon, just sleepwalking.

I did and still do sleep walk and talk.
Dd also does it. However it's now about 1 or 2 times per year.

For me it was always when something was worrying me. Exam times at school were always a trigger.

It's the same with dd. She did it when she was sitting her sats in May. Found her on the sofa downstairs asleep with a glass of water

i dont think its anything to really worry about either. make sure doors are locked keys out of reach etc. i dont think there is much a gp can do. my other son grew out of it.
