She is still very new to the business and eager to please, which I can understand, but seriously, is it necessary to empty the shredder after EVERY use? (sometimes only 1 sheet) or to CONSTANTLY be asking if anyone wants any more horrendous tea?

We also can't have the air-conditioning on as she is ALWAYS cold, so myself and the other staff are sat here sweating like pigs while she is shivering in a cardigan!

Would I be unreasonable to kill her?

Joking obvs!

Air-conditioning rage is a real problem. I spend all day fucking boiling at work because the 'office manager' who sits next to the a/c control moans after 2 minutes that she's 'freezing' or surreptitiously alters it so it's set to warm and not cool.

First world problems and all that....

I'm a 'cold' person so really hate working in a room with people who always want windows open and fans blasting. But I think this is a problem in any workplace.
Mind you, if I was new somewhere I would just go along with the majority so that seems a bit cheeky.

She's probably trying to make a good impression, being seen to show willing and all that.

Can you find her tasks to do outside the office so you can have the aircon on while she's not there?

Keep her occupied with other things so she doesn't have time to mention teas or empty the shredder Wink

What you describe sounds like someone who feels they're unsure of what to do! Is she sure of her job? Does she know what to do all the time? Or could there be periods when she's lost?

If the majority are too hot then surely the air conditioner is put on and she gets herself a fleece lined hoody. She's probably hot from all the tea. Grin

Annoying, but much better than arrogantly not bothering with anything! I think it is nice she is trying hard. I bet she'll stop once she feels settled. It puts me in mind of a dog, circling before sitting down.

For now you should ask her to make you all cold drinks!! But someone should take her aside and explain you are all very fussy tea drinkers and show her exactly how people like there tea made. All the other problems you can cope with but horrible tea is a killer....

Some very good ideas here. I shall give them a go tomorrow. Re. The hideous tea, she is aware of how we all like our tea, she just doesn't do it! She confessed yesterday that she often recycles teabags and will make 2 cups from 1 bag! Shock needless to say we were all horrified. (That could be a whole other AIBU topic... 'to think a teabag should be used only once')

We also have an enthusiastic new colleague. She's very nice, but she will Not. Stop. Talking. It's giving me the rage. I know she's just trying to be friendly and fit in, but she keeps interrupting me and breaking my concentration. It's relentless.

I have no suggestions, but I feel your pain. Wink

Oh, never let her make the tea again. Suggest that you all make your own!
