Despite being reasonably smart on paper, my DD(19) is as daft as a brush.
For Christmas, we bought her a camera tripod. Last night she got around to opening the box and announced to the family that foolish Mum had bought her a tripod only a foot high. When I suggested that perhaps the legs telescoped out, or unfolded in some way, she was adamant that this was not the case, and implied, rather patronisingly, that I should have read the details a bit better when I bought it for her.
She left the tripod on the landing, and DH has just had a look, and of course the legs telescope out.
Would we be unreasonable to leave the tripod on the landing, and fractionally lengthen the legs each day, until she realises the tripod is miraculously growing? (Can you tell that DS(8) has been having The Twits as his bedtime story?)
Any bets how long it would be before she notices?

I did a similar thing to ds (now 19) when he was adamant that the phone I bought him didn't have a forward facing camera. He desperately wanted it so he could skype his girlfriend while she went to the States two summers ago. As a practise run on the camera before he called her but AFTER he resigned to the fact he wouldn't be able to see her at the same time she could see him I took loads of selfies while he posed the other side of the phone. As he flicked through the camera roll, apprehension dawned

Awesome. And just like Esio Trot birdsgottafly... no one notices when something grows bigger if it just grows a weenie bit bigger each day. I reckon she'd notice on day 8
