The "admins" on these pages are so bloody into it and delete any post that doesn't state a price. They also tell people off for "not being courteous" and for not selling to the very first person to comment on the item as if its a law.

They post poorly worded rants about how people will be blocked from the group if they do not adhere to the list of rules as long as your arm.

AIBU to think these "admins" are absolutely ridiculous?

YABU. If you're stupid enough to post an ad for a sale without a price on it you should be deleted. And why not delete the rude people too?

I suppose there have to be rules. Putting a price up is not at all unreasonable.

Also, rules of a group don't have to be laws. Just rules of the group.

Selling to the first person is not always a good idea. A better rule would be wait 24 hours and choose.

You could start your own selling group and have the rules you want to have.

if the admins who set up and run that page want a price on every item, and delete those without. well 'thems the rules'

if you don't like the way it is run, then do feel free to make your own 'free' group
I have left pages in the past as some admins dont know their arse from their elbow

last one i left was a "Memories of..." where people were posting about Lynda Bellingham and a campaign to get the ad back on over Christmas, as it was the 7th time i had seen it, i complained, but was told "its a memory" They fill the group with jokes, and photos like "share if you had chocolate in the 70's" type crap that i am simply not interested in, i want to see photos of my old town and memories....

Just to clarify, I don't mean people just post pictures and thats it. They usually say something like, please make me an offer. This is apparently "unfair" and "may put shy people off from using the site". I mean come on, really?

Oh Scarlet that's interesting. I'm a member of a few 'memories' groups on fb and the squabbling, infighting, bitchiness on every single one is breathtaking. I'm very often aghast and agog at the goings on!

I hate posts that ask for offers.. invariably someone will make one, and be told no because they actually want X amount for the item... just put a price on in the first place!

And if someone's rude to me they won't get my item either, using manners doesn't hurt you!

Agree no one should be rude, but to tattle to the admins who seem to spend every second of their day online, I think that's quite pathetic tbh.

I think it is unfair. It leads to lots of trying to guess what someone wants to accept! Far easier to just say ten pounds ono and let people haggle if they want to.

YABU about not putting prices on items for sale. I avoid anything marked as "make me an offer" because it makes the whole process unnecessarily complicated and is usually guaranteed to cause some sort of grief.

YANBU in finding some of these groups run like a dictatorship but I'm another person who thinks that you can't actually beat local memories groups for totalitarianism and downright bizarre behaviour. We have one that is legendary for stealing pictures, banning anyone who offers even the mildest difference of opinion and yet constantly badgers everyone to "like" the page. Ironically, the admin is someone who only recently moved to the area and, quite frankly, has buggerall memory of it.

I've just done similarly, chrome. The admin have warned the person in question to stop posting racially insulting so-called "jokes". But instead of banning the arsehole, he's still on the board but now posting equally unfunny but not actually racist threads. All of them with a comment about "Suitable for the PC Brigade".

I don't know what it is about these "memories" pages but they do seem to attract a disproportionate number of absolute cunts.

I'm on a local selling page set up specifically for our area. People out of the area are allowed to buy and sell as long as they can bring whatever they're selling or collect what they're selling.

The admins never pick anyone up who isn't from the area but doesn't offer to drop off or collect.

But God forbid anyone doesn't put a price on!

Another one here with delivery as a "rule" on our local page. Which is fine - except the town that you need to live in is also our entire postal area so technically we all live in the X area. I don't bother now with it unless it's a high value item as I'm not doing a 15 mile round trip for something I'm selling for a fiver.

The FB selling page I use has those rules and works well. Majority of arguments are when people have their posts removed for asking for offers then having a hissy fit. Name your price or pay ebay if you want offers.

Haha wwyd my local fb selling page admin deleted a load of people this week. She'd wanted something "and tbf I did ask first babe" and they'd given it to someone who could easily collect.

The ones back home treat it like they're governing a country, they get sooo into it. I'm just waiting for one of them to update their Job Title on FB to 'Admin of Free, For Sale and Swap In...'

It does make me wonder if maybe they just don't have much else going on, and running these pages with an iron fist is their way of making themselves feel needed/useful? Don't know for sure though.

The one that annoys me in my area at the moment is the page where people are selling their cars/bikes/mopeds etc - for £500 or less.

People put pictures up for £1300, £1000 or say things like 'I have to put £500 but expect offers for more than that'?! Just post in the normal car selling page, not the one that specifies £500 or less!

Tbf the admin are pretty good at deleting those but it winds me up :/

I was on a local sale page once.
I offered something for sale, then a day before the buyer was due to collect, changed my mind as I still had urgent use for the item. I then put it on eBay a week or so later after I'd used it.

Because I pulled out and then put it on eBay, she began a hate campaign -starting with the page admin (her real life friend) calling me a con artist, gradually her other friends got involved on the page, and inevitably Chinese whispers ensued, which ended up me being branded a 'babykiller' as one person insisted I'd been private messaging I'd murder their children and so the next person dropped their jaw and pretended they had too. It was a bizarre group catalyst situation, and to this day I'm still shocked at the ferocity of it all.

It still goes on too (of course I've been banned from every single local sale page after she contacted all the admins) and I've seen the same thing happen to other people on her page.

The funny thing is, I had stood next to her at the school gates for a year, doing the usual chat about the weather and don't the Reception kids look too small for school yet. We've even shared an umbrella in the rain, yet she had no idea I was the same woman she'd shot down as a 'babykiller' online. Amazing how your online character can be so different from your real life one. I liked her in real life, she was sweet.

There's something about the virtually total anonymity of eBay that makes trading a pleasure though. eBayers are far more friendly and polite.

Facebook selling is full of a disheartening number of people who can't spell, and are up for a bunfight at the drop of a consonant!
