To wonder if others find tampons leak after birth of DC?!

Hi ladies,

Slightly embarrassing one here... Since the birth of my DD (6 mo) I have found that tampons just aren't doing the trick anymore; they leak even when not saturated (or anywhere near).

I have been using lilets as they apparently expand sideways but it hasn't made much difference

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and found a solution (eg more pelvic floors?!) I really don't fancy the mooncup as I'm a bit squeamish about cleaning it out etc...

Yes, same here. As I understand it, it's due to a weak pelvic floor. Ive also had other issues which I think are related - aching in the, er, area, and lower back ache.
I've just started doing the MuTu programme, which is a specialist postnatal exercise programme to fix diastasis and strengthen pelvic floor, and I'm going to make an appointment to see a women's physiotherapist on recommendation.
It's hard to find info about it but I recently confided in some friends IRL and they admitted they had the same issue - so I guess it's quite common.

I think more pelvic floor exercise might be the answer.

My friend said she was running for the bus last week and her tampon fell out into her knickers

Yes mine do, had to stop using them. I've done pelvic floor religiously this pregnancy so it'll be interesting to see if it makes a difference.

Worra ?? ! That is my fear!
My DC's are 4 and 1, and I had the issue after my first - I did nothing about it and it's been even worse since my second. I've read that left untreated you can end up with prolapse.

This is what I'm doing. There's loads on info about pelvic floor dysfunction on the site - kegels alone can't fix it, only a holistic exercise programme.

Yes this happened to me after DS. I didn't get my period back until he was about 9 months so it was a while after the birth too. I also became really squeamish about using a tampon at all and found that althought it didn't hurt, I could feel it constantly and it really went through me. I had some other pelvic floor issues after DS too but seeing a gynae physio really helped - she just made me do pelvic floors really - and the tampon issue improved over time!

I was unable to use tampons after the birth of my first DS. I was referred to a gynae and I was told that the botched forceps delivery had caused too much damage. I declined an attempt at a repair, as there was no guarantee that it would make any difference. I tried pelvic floor exercises, but they made no difference.

I had to stop using them. I then went in for a repair operation due to prolapse and was able to start using them again. have always done and still do my pelvic floors every day but guess some people are more prone to it than others. if worried go and see your gp in case you have a prolapse that isn't evident outside the body yet.

My children are 7 and 5, my tampons leak too I never even gave it a thought it might be anything to do with child birth. I have to wear a towel too and that can't be right

I can't wear them anymore. After the first wee they fall out.

Oh thank goodness its not just me. Towel and tampon here too and god awful ache (this has improved). DC are 6 and 3.

Yep, have balls & did floor excercises too but still leak unfortunately.
