"u" after "q". Why? Why not just have "q"?

ChippingInAutumnLover Thu 06-Nov-14 14:10:14

Yes, the e is a bit superfluous too!

Especially queuing for the knee clinic.

how would you spell queuing without the u though? qeing? grin

adsy Thu 06-Nov-14 14:21:52

We all know that q makes the kew noise.

CrohnicallyAnxious Thu 06-Nov-14 14:30:54

Actually, 'kew' is the letter name, we teach the sound 'kw' in phonics. 'Queue' is a tricky word that uses unusual grapheme/phoneme correspondences ie isn't spell how it sounds.

Yes, those darn unusual words. Why bother with any of them. If only we used grunts to communicate.

Urgh, urgh ururugh urgh.

I'm a scrabble player, there are plenty of words with a Q in with no U. I love non Qu words.

Suq (ok, it has a U but not after the U)

There's loads more but I can't remember them.
