AIBU?

to think that TV shows with male presenters and glamorous female assistants have had their day?

I am no rampant feminist or prude, but the other night I flicked to the '8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown' (or whatever it's called) on TV. Jimmy Carr suggested to Rachel Riley that she should bend over. Changed the channel to 'Celebrity Juice' (complete dross and Keith Lemon is as funny as toothache, in my opinion) and the way he spoke to the female panel members was absolutely disgusting.
Hard to believe that we're in 2014 ...

Can't say I watch this stuff but I agree with you. It's grim.

Me neither normally. An eye opener on how sexist (some) TV shows still are.

But the shows you talk about are both comedy shows - with men who get laughs by being contraversial and shocking people. Not sure about jimmy Carr but Keith lemon is obviously a character - that's not necessarily a good representation of what he thinks and how he behaves. I'm more offended by the local news programmes, breakfast tv etc which consistently use the 50-60 grey male alongside significantly younger, giggly, attractive presenter. It says to me they think their viewers want to see a man who knows what he's talking about and a woman who's easy on the eye. .

I liked the new girl on countdown at first as I know she is clever, but honestly some of the dresses she wear on that show now make her look a complete tart. With everything she has going for her there really is no need.

I was going to exactly the same as eebahgum.

Picture a serious, average looking anchor woman of around 50/60 sat beside a young smiley obviously attractive man co presenting the news.

It never happens. Why?

(I would like to say though i really like Naga Munchetty and Steph McGovern on BBC breakfast at the mo. Refreshing change)

The funny thing about Steph McGovern is that it's so patently obvious to anyone in business or running a business that she doesn't actually know anything about 'business'.

If you look at her career development; she left school, went to college, got a job at the BBC. She hasn't actually HAD a job in business or ran her own business. But, she did have the good fortune to have a regional accent so the BBC could tick the diversity box.

She's a bit of a fake in my humble opinion.
