AIBU?

To stay in bed?

I am 11 weeks pregnant and have had an ok experience so far (touch wood). I was off work a fair bit at the start as we did IVF and I had problems with my ovaries. Anyway, since then I've been trundling in and out to central London every day feeling totally knackered and sicky but well enough to work.

This morning I am soooo dizzy and every time I stand up I get massive palpitations. I googled (of course) and it says both things are normal because of increased blood flow.

I just feel awful though and want to stay lying down. AIBU to email my boss and tell her I won't be in today? Arghhh the guilt is awful. Cannot wait until next week when I can just tell the team what is really going on!!

yanbu. I'm 23 weeks and have been in bed for the past 2 weeks. Looking after your bubba is your top priority now. I hope you feel better soon Thanks

stay in bed.

your health and the health of your baby are more important than losing a day at work. I know these are normal symptoms, but fuck it, if you don't feel well enough, make yourself a cup of sweet tea and get back in that bed.

Don't feel guilty either.

Will your bosses be understanding once they find out? Can you just tell them now? It may make you feel less anxious about staying off.

Yes my boss knows I am pregnant but she is a total superwoman and doesn't "do" sickness.

I just want to tell the people who report in to me but I'll wait til next week, more superstition than anything else I suppose.

oh no. a boss that doesn't "do" sickness.

I really hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well and you will not find yourself having to take more time off. Its awful having to make the decision to stay off and then feeling guilty for it. Always remember you and your baby comes first.

I was sick throughout my pregnancy - first trimester - morning sickness. Then a period of feeling OK, then I got chicken pox, then gestational diabetes reared its ugly head, plus a dose of prenatal depression. I had quite a bit of time off. I spoke with my bosses and HR and we came to an arrangement which worked for us both. Thank goodness they were understanding.

I wish you well xxx

Ah a boss that doesn't "do" sickness. Or in my opinion, someone who has been very lucky with their health or is more than happy to infect others with various viruses.

Stay off today. Rest over the weekend. Try again Monday.

On a side note, I used to not "do" illness. In the past 3 years, have picked up everything going. Currently recovering from pneumonia. Now I look back to me "I don't do ill" with a wry smile.
