to think, actually, most people are just nice?

and all most people want is a bit of friendliness and respect?
Two very kind people helped me with my dcs while shopping this morning. They made my day easier and brighter and I think they enjoyed chatting to my dcs (who really had the cute turned up to 100 bless them). Oh and a man put back my trolley for me. No particular reason he just did it. Small things make a big difference.

I agree, most people are nice. Especially in times of need. Its just the ones that are not nice stick in the mind somewhat!

WorraLiberty Wed 16-Oct-13 12:43:30

I agree totally

However, I think it's easy to get a skewed view on how many not so nice people there are out there, because we tend to mention them more.

Fleta Wed 16-Oct-13 12:45:17

Agreed. I always try to do one "nice" thing a day, even if it is only stopping to say hello to someone or giving someone a nice smile.

Make me feel better about myself smile

I agree - and I find most people are kind, lovely and helpful. So much so that it always shocks me when you do meet the occasional rude person.

Inertia Wed 16-Oct-13 12:50:29

Agree with you. And attitudes do seem to be transmitted - kindnesses are often carried forward by people, whereas negativity seems to be spread by everyone getting cross.

I encountered a lovely traffic warden yesterday- even they exist!

MomentForLife Wed 16-Oct-13 12:50:56

Yep,agree. I know cynical people who think you're a mug if you do something for nothing and it drives me mad. Its called being nice!

aturtlenamedmack Wed 16-Oct-13 12:51:42

I agree too - unfortunately the negative experiences stand out in your mind, but the reason for that is because most of the time people treat each other with kindness and respect, so when they don't, we remember it.

CoffeeTea103 Wed 16-Oct-13 12:54:36

I agree, a lot of people are generally very nice.

A gentleman opened the very stiff post office door for me this morning. Made my day as I struggle with the pram.

Thurlow Wed 16-Oct-13 12:58:06

Yes - I think the reason you get so many threads etc about people who have been rude is because, actually, it's rather out of the ordinary. Normally people are quite nice to each other.

KellyElly Wed 16-Oct-13 12:58:08

Agreed and even some people who seem moody or rude are probably nice people having a bad day.

Rummikub Wed 16-Oct-13 13:08:57

I agree too, lots of kind lovely people around. I have had strangers pay my bus fare because I didn't have enough and I now pay it forward to others. A small kindness goes a long way. Really helped me see good in my life at even my darkest times.

Aw bless your dd molding that's so sweet. What was the man's reaction?

MomentForLife Wed 16-Oct-13 13:22:49

Very lovely of your DD.

enormouse Wed 16-Oct-13 13:23:03

These are lovely.

Ds has a favourite waitress at our usual cafe and will always toddle to the counter to say hello to her, get shy and run off. The last time we went in he pinched a small packet of biscuits which I noticed when we sat down. I insisted he take them back so we could pay for them. The waitress refused to accept payment insisting she wanted to treat him and that she loved it when he came in. Cue massive smiles from Ds.

Yes, most people IRL are decent and kind and just trying to get along.

People on the Internet and under the guise of anonymity, however...

KissesBreakingWave Wed 16-Oct-13 14:52:17

The problem is that the arseholes fart out so much noise and stink that they get all the attention.

Nancy66 Wed 16-Oct-13 14:55:08

Yes, it's true. Most people are thoroughly decent. It's why we notice it so much when somebody is not.

semirurallife Wed 16-Oct-13 15:02:48

nice thread to celebrate niceness. and i think you're right, its just that as kisses says the noise gets the attention. and the greed... most people don't care and just want everyone else to be ok, but we're not allowed to say that now coz the Daily Fail will call it socialism...

Owllady Wed 16-Oct-13 15:02:55

I agree
I also think you are more likely to share an awful experience rather than a good one. It's liek trip advisor, are you more likely to report a nice meal (that wasn't amazing, but nice none the less) or a bit of fluff on your plates and a miserable waitress?

I personally don't do this grin but I know people who do. One of my husband's friends is an absolute stickler for complaining and it really gets on my nerves
