AIBU?

To think my mother is BU?

She does not stop or go back into the store if she sets off the security alarms (she is not shoplifting, something just didn't scan properly). She thinks it's ridiculous that I went back into the store today after the clerk missed a security tag. She insists that because I'm not stealing I shouldn't go back. She actually got a little shouty.

I think she's being ridiculous to not spend a few minutes sorting things out so everyone can breathe a little easier.

I don't go back either. If they think I have stolen something they can chase me, I will happily show them my receipt.

She was BU for shouting at you over it though.

I go back because I can never get the security tags off things. Regardless of why you go back she was BU to shout at you.

Sometimes the tags have dye packs. SIBU.

The store was pretty empty and the poor clerk kept apologizing for missing the security tag. The darn thing would've set off alarms in every store I went into.

It was a "soft tag" that looks like any old tag that lists size and fabrics, so quite easy to miss.

I would go back too! I had a shirt I bought that must have had 2 security tags on it as I saw them remove one; beeped as I walked out but I thought hmm can't be anything untoward.
Got home, and found a tag! Aargh. Then had a complicated scenario play out where I bought the same item again, took the tagged one back for untagging, then in a different shop swapped the 2nd item, was ridiculous!
I hadn't wanted to go back with the tagged thought the shop would think I had stolen it (altho had receipt so maybe would have been fine). Anyway 2 mins checking in the shop when I beeped would have sorted it!

This is very annoying when it happens. I normally walk away slowly like Lampshade, after all I have done nothing wrong, but if security are on hand they are welcome to see the receipt!
I also used to have a problem with library books setting off the alarms.

My old mobile would set off alarms sometimes. I didn't keep it long.

Your mother wbu. I've had tags missed on clothes before when the alarm hasn't gone off. It's much easier to sort while you are still there, and less embarrassing even though you've done nothing wrong.

I never go back, however this has come back to haunt me on many occasions when the tag hasn't been removed. (their mistake! I wasn't shoplifting. Honest)

SIBU. I always stop if the alarms go off, it's nearly always for a DVD that hadn't been untagged properly/at all. Takes so little time to sort out.

SWBU. I once bought a pair of jeans, and set off the alarms in 2 different stores before I decided to check my purchase - lo and behold, tab still on the jeans. Deliberately walked back into the original store through a different entrance where the alarm did go off, then told the staff which door alarm wasn't working.
