AIBU?

To throw away her toothbrush?

I caught DH playing with our baby daughter's toothbrush in his mouth. She thought it was hilarious, I did not. I'm sure I've read that tooth decay/ gum disease is contagious and that therefore tooth brushes should NEVER be shared least of all between the grebby gob of my DH and the innocent two pearly whites of my DD

Am I wrong? Am I being ridiculous? I think we need to throw it away and find a way of one of us (him!) getting to Boots today to get a new one.

I thought about boiling it but distinctly remember reading on the packaging not to boil.

So is DH disgusting, or am I precious? Discuss!

Just pour boiling water over the top (for now)

Get a new one at the W/end maybe?

You are not being precious. Some here may say otherwise though. Wink

Possibly a bit precious, but I understand. I've read the same thing as you. No idea whether it's true.

Just get another toothbrush and lock it up Wink.

dentist here toothbrushes should not be shared because different people have slightly different groups of bacteria in their mouths we are meant to have bacteria in our mouths the vast majority are healthy and start the initial process of digestion

occasionally there are disease causing pathogens and some bacteria when fed with sugar will produce acid which is what starts decay

tooth decay and gum disease are not contagious

your DD will have as many bacteria in her mouth as DH all the licking toys and things on the floor

if you can't get new brush today put it in milton like a baby bottle or dummy

I've put my toothbrush in my dishwasher before and it was fine but that was an adult one.

You are right in that the bacteria from your mouth are transmitted to your babies. It is part of the reason women get free dental treatment while pg so the good bugs crowd out the bad ones.

I would get a new toothbrush particularly if your hubby has a grebby gob. Great expression!

I'm probably precious about it, but I wouldn't use a toothbrush that someone else had had in their mouth, myself, let alone let my baby do so Grin. Buy her a new one - and give one to your DH to play with Wink
