to explore Kos on my own despite lack of experience and confidence

I'm going to spend a couple of weeks in the summer with a distant relative. This has very much been offered as a chance for me to have a break away after a horrid year. My relative works so won't be around to entertain me, though sh esays we can go out for a meal together in the evening. She's suggested theres a hotel near her home and she knows theowners so I can just go and lie by their pool and relax. This sounds great for a couple of days, but I'd really like to go and see the sights and explore. Does Kos have sights? Hmm

AIBU to consider doing this when I've never been to Kos before and don't have too much in the way of confidence at the moment. Is it a safe place for a lone female to wander around?

I've only been for a day but it seems pretty touristy. I think you would be OK on your own.

Have a fun holiday!

God yes!
It's a fairly tiny island, easy enough to get around and plenty to see!

Have only ever encountered lovely people.

You can also get a boat to Rhodes town and over to Turkey too but not sure what the situation is regarding going from Greece to Turkey. I really liked Kos and Rhodes too.

ages since I've been there, but yes - lots to see and do (wonder if you can still cycle round), trips to places such as Nissyros, lovely Greek food etc etc.

nowhere is safe and we are all going to die. With normal common sense you'll be absolutely fine. That means look both ways before crossing the road, don't get too drunk and don't get sunstroke. :-)

learn a few words of Greek but everyone in restaurants, sights etc will speak English. And several other languages too.

enjoy. Grab a rough guide from the library and see what appeals.

Kos has some decent historical sites if that interests you. I've travelled about Kos on my own as my holiday companions preferred lying in the sun to ancient history. It was fine and easy to get about by bus. Kos Town is worth a visit. There is an ancient plane tree that Hippocrates used to sit under and teach students and a medieval castle. There's also the Asklepion (spelling might be dodgy) which was kind if an ancient hospital. There's a Ronan theatre somewhere I think too but can't remember where. You'll have a great time if you like history!
