• why the weather forecast for the SE today said it would be a warm and sunny day, but it turned out to be cold and cloudy with a bit of drizzle
  
• why, when I went round lots of shops today, I could not find a cream-coloured, linen-mix, long-length jacket.

It's definitely wrong. All day it has been grey and drizzly with occasional tiny little breaks in the cloud. No sooner than they appear, the clouds regather and it's back to the gloom again.

Sadly, I think it's right that I was a fool to believe the 'sunny in the SE' prediction.

But why does the Met Office say such stuff if it's just a guess?

and my inability to find a linen-mix jacket in the putative Spring just doesn't count

It was sunny first thing, light cloud at mid-day, then cloud broke up and was sunny and very warm.
ATM it is lightly cloudy, but with no air movement so rather muggy.

It was warm and sunny for about 10 minutes - just long enough for me to send my kids to school in their summer dresses

It is in fact grey, dull and cold. I put the heating on for an hour's blast
