I'm not on it and the majority of my social interactions are by email these days Grin I'm not sure if that makes me a snob though, its only because when I was on fb I was getting all sorts of annoying messages from dhs ex girlfriends, my family, his family, and people shit stirring and attention seeking all the time. I've never met anyone who was snobbish about not being on it, only people who say they cba with it.

Agree, I'm one of them Wink

I do feel supercilious about it and I see a lot of negative effects in my work with teenagers.

In fact I think it's one of the things I can be most cunty about. It's not an attractive quality but I can't like everything about myself or they'd be no room for growth.

I think I am a bit as well. It seems to cause so much unnecessary aggro amongst groups of people. My DD was on it when she first started high school and said it just made her feel paranoid so she packed it in and has never looked back. I arrange things mostly by text or e mail. It never ceases to amaze me that people are "friends" with individuals they actively dislike and can snark at them over the internet.

I'm more pompous about how slebs use Twitter to tell us useless info that we really don't want/need to know. There was an article in the paper today about how Tina from Corrie (sorry don't know her real name) and her boyfriend Mark Wright had some 'banter' online and then all her fans jumped on board moaning about it. Who the fuck cares!

As an adult I find it useful as I have friends in various parts of the country and world so it enables you to feel that you are still involved in their lives and vice versa. I do however find it hugely annoying in terms of the bragging that goes on and things like 'look at the lovely snow in my VERY BIG GARDEN' photo...etc. I also find that some people who you have on there you soon realise are a lot more stupid than you could ever have imagined.

I am so glad that it wasnt around when I was a teenager, it has the capacity for causing so much trouble/arguments etc and there was enough of all that in the all girls school I was at.

I just dont get the snobbery around it with some people..you know the ones..I am far too fucking cultured to be on facebook...erm why is that then? I just dont geddit?!?!

I don't know.

I like facebook for the games and the pictures of kittens.

Also I misread the OP as 'pompous shrubbery' and was confused for a moment there. Grin

I have never gotten into the realms of twitter...you cant post photos on it so it lost its appeal very quickly for me....enjoying the 'oh my god she (from school) married him he must be bloody minted!'....horrible I know..

YABU. I don't feel pompous or a snob for not having Facebook. I've read so many negative threads on here about Facebook that I would never join.

FB is sooooo dull, and yet here we have another thread about it.

Call me pompus if you like, or even pompous, but I conduct all my business and social contacts by email, and by dropbox if I have large files to send. I managed perfectly well before FB happened and see no need to change now. Life goes on just the same.
If you want to use it, that's fine. Just don't plaster MN with complaints about this or that comment that someone posted.

Like most things, Facebook has benefits and draw backs. I'm just amazed how open people are about things though, they post some really personal stuff on there. This stuff is NEVER going away, it will be there forever. One day they may regret it.

silveroldie not all people who are not on it have this snobbery, just some..I am not talking about everyone who isnt on it...I am talking about hose who pooh pooh it.

sallyingforth I have not nor would I post a thread on mums net about facebook, if I dont like a comment I would delete that person. I wouldnt think anyone on mums net would give a fuck really. Mums net however is the kind of place where the snobbery about facebook exists in that somehow posting on a social networking site like this where it is an audience of strangers is some how superior ?

I am not on it but it's not a snob factor.
In fact I often feel a little left out with the world. But that's my problem, no one else's. I am not on it because of personal reasons ( not as exciting as your imaginations could create).

Some of the stories I hear about on here make me a little wide-eyed I am naive but I am also sensible enough to know people only post horror stories and not everyday-run-of-the-mill happy stories.

I don't think I'm snobby about not having Facebook, but much like Silver, I read so many negative things I just can't really see the point.
My dh has an account and sometimes tells me about what people have posted and I do end up being quite eye rolly. Maybe that does make me pompous?

I think sometimes, yes..people can be a bit snobby; some seem to have this opinion that it does nothing but cause agro and is mainly frequented by Jeremy Kyle watching, gossiping harpies. I personally use to to keep in touch with friends form around the world and am very selective about what I see and who can see me. Just like anything else, it's not the tool that's ineffective, it's the workman. And really, if you use FB to argue with others, spread gossip..whatever you use it for, it's no one else's business apart form yours and those on your friends list.

flaminhoopsaloolah That is my point its these people who assume that they cant possibly inhabit the world of facebook because it is dominated by 'chavs' or 'teens'. I happen to know of many professional people who use it .

I don't do FB but not because I judge it, DH has a page which he never uses and I nose on his but because I don't think I've got anything of interest to put on there.
