I've taken DD1 to her friends bday party. She's in reception so and a funny age in terms of whether parents should stay or go and leave their children. I know the mum hosting the party out of school too, so I'm not worried about leaving DD there with her friends.

DH is at home with DD2 (aged 3) and DD3 (aged 6 months), and his sister, BIL and their high maintenance 1.5yo. It's madness at home.

DH and I both expected that I would be sat at the party till it finishes at 6. But now all the kids are playing sans parents, I am free to go home. But I want to just in my car in peace, eat and MN for the next hour, and DH will be non the wiser.

Unfortunately the only shops nearby are an asda and a matalan. Treated myself to some cheap crappy jewellery from there.

Back home now. I strolled around Asda and mooched in the car. Then popped into party for the last half hour as other mums were arriving to pick up kids.

Got home and DD2 & 3 were fed, and dinner ready for me too.

Lovely break, I must sneak out alone more often.

I'd had one of those days last week and had 2 mtgs in the evening. After the last meeting at 9.30pm, I went to the supermarket, bought something to eat and sat in the car reading my kindle and eating before I came home to deal with the household again.

It was lovely.

When my children were small I always offered to go out to get stuff or do party runs etc and then would sit in the car with the radio on for half an hour before going home - pure bliss!
