...on the canal.hmm

2 3-4yr olds desperately rushing from one side of the bridge to the other, this afternoon, DF eagerly encouraging them.grin

In what world would pooh sticks ever be unreasonable?

EduCated Sun 18-Nov-12 19:56:33

Ha. Did they even actually move?

cumfy Sun 18-Nov-12 20:02:04

No they were verrr static.

EduCated Sun 18-Nov-12 20:04:59

grin

Took us a looooong time to explain the concept of canals not having a current to my DSis.

She was in her 20s at the time grin

mrskeithrichards Sun 18-Nov-12 20:05:56

Do canals not move?

cumfy Sun 18-Nov-12 20:16:26

I'm not sure water courses are a favoured topic round here.
Last year someone explaining local geography to friend on a hill top:

And doon there, there's the river. The River Forth.
<Points at 2 mile wide body of sea water> hmm

mrskeithrichards Sun 18-Nov-12 20:19:25

It is technically a river though!

I often play it alone in the woods on dog walks. Wish I still had a small child as a beard companion.

OHforDUCKScake Sun 18-Nov-12 20:21:55

My houss is next to an estuary, we love pooh sticks.

cumfy Sun 18-Nov-12 20:23:28

I think the River Forth turns into the Firth of Forth around Kincardine.

This was definitely the Firth of Forth.

Mrsjay Sun 18-Nov-12 20:24:15

It's very unreasonable in Daily Mail Land.

(You need to scroll down through the story a bit to find the part about Poohsticks.)

EduCated Sun 18-Nov-12 21:59:17

No, canals are, in the main, static. They're man-made so there's no natural water course. They're basically just a water filled ditch.

We have a lovely walk through parsk to get from my house to town. It has three bridges over the stream. We always play Pooh Sticks.

Having said that, our local council is the one in the news for being in danger of going bankrupt. Better stop it, because they may start issuing random fines. hmm

BarbecuedBillygoats Sun 18-Nov-12 23:36:36

You need someone to open a lock further up

ZebraOwl Mon 19-Nov-12 02:55:20

Well, not so much U as a bit cruel unless you put little motors on the sticks to help them move...
