AIBU to get really wound up by people writing "I don't no" online. Is it accepted text language or does it just mean the author cannot spell the word know?
Also when people write "I am not aloud" is that also text speak or just someone being thick?

I don't no Wink

I think the most common mistake is probably 'loose' and 'lose'.

I typed the other day, "My waistband is getting loose"...and it looked so odd that I nearly changed it to 'lose' because I'm so used to seeing the spelling error.

Grin Worra!

I do that a lot - I mean, look at a word and wonder because I'm not used to seeing it written down correctly... Thank fuck for dictionaries, eh!

Or someone being dyslexic. Dh has to write things as he says them and gets laughed at and called thick by idiots with a superior attitude.

Here are my other pet hates:

I might "loose" my job.
"Socail" services.
I need some "advise".
"physcologist"

Honestly everyone does the odd typo, but some posts look like they have been written by Stevie Wonder with boxing gloves on.

I was actually called a "spelling snob" on another website recently. Now those who want to spell correctly are snobs? We should not be the ones justifying ourselves!

YANBU. I clicked this thread as some sort of self loathing act. Your title made me want to scream into a pillow.

I don't think they're thick. Lazy, maybe....

I blame Girls Aloud for the allowed/aloud thing.

I have a relative (by marriage) who writes in text speak. In a Scottish accent. It makes my eyes hurt.

How the fuck do you type in a Scottish accent?

'Advise' and 'Advice'...that's definitely one of the most common I think.

I think a lot of people don't know the difference between there and their and your and you're!

I previously assumed that it was younger people who make these mistakes but I have recently seen my mil using these incorrectly too!!Shock

No idea Exit Lol

My DH is very literate and yet he just can't get his head around when to use 'to' and 'too'.

He's ok with 'two' though so that's something at least [hgrin]

I used to share forum space with soneone who said "wat" instead of "what". It made me want to beat her to death with a dictionary.

Socail is, I think an exception. Entirely a typo.

Work PC autcorrects teh for the, relaese for release and similar not looking at the keys mistypes.

Work for me, misuse to/two/too and there/their/they're and you'll be on reminders, controlled mailings, disciplinary and then working elsewhere.

Don't mind ETLAs or IRCisms like IMHO, ROTLFMAO, but wat us say? drives me crackers...
