AIBU?

To think facebook voting contests are the fucking pits.

I entered DS's painting into a competition to win a bespoke kitchen appliance (that we desperately need) and lo and behold it's turned out to be yet another pointless facebook voting competition.

The frontrunners are currently picking up a shitload of votes from facebook profiles consisting of tagged pictures of handbags and hampers and pleas for $1000 gift cards that don't exist. I've read a few of the comments from aforementioned voters and it's like some incestuous circle of human compbots who just repeatedly vote for each other regardless of the competition or prize. They also have the brass neck to be self righteous about the fact that they are not using a vote exchange system because that would be horribly unfair.

I've already resigned myself to the fact that we are out of the running, but I'm still refreshing the page thrice hourly and (mildly) cajoling friends and family to throw us a 'like' so we can go out fighting.

This IS NOT a roundabout plea for votes. I was in 2 minds about posting but I just wanted to have a bitch and hear that I am most definitely not being unreasonable and find out if anybody else has also fallen victim to the comping massive?

There are to be TWO winners btw and one will be selected by a judging panel including moustachioed Ready Steady Cook favourite and partaker of pies, Brian Turner so we might be down, but we're definitely not out.

Seriously, this is not a vote plea...because reading it back it might just come off as a plea...it's not. I'm just pissed off that I'm actually pissed off.

some of the voting comps are rigged as you describe and the normal ordinary person with normal ordinary friends lists dont stand a chance, but good on you for entering, the only ones i vote on are for animal charities and the one i work for won a five thousand pounds grant from one of the insurance companies, but it was hard work getting everyone who knew the charity, and thier friends and thier friends of dfriends to vote, and one patricular blind cat charity in usa has so many people who vote for them that the other smaller chairites have no chance of winning

I agree with you about voting competitions, they are a pain and I don't tend to bother with them as its too much effort begging people for votes
but disagree with you on the rest of it, so what if people's fb pages are full of competitions and people like to enter a lot? its a hobby - loads of people do it. my fb actually looks like that most of the time..
the "comping massive" (presuming u mean comping groups on fb..) tend to be a nice and helpful bunch as far as what i've seen - you are taking it too personally that other people have entered.
You can't win everything - thats why you have to enter loads, then you will have more chance! anyway good luck with the judging pannel

firawla - I see your point. I wasn't expecting to win but I don't feel that me or the other 5 entrants ever stood a fair chance in a public vote and that's a bit of a shame really.

I haven't really got the time or the inclination to turn into a hardcore comper...it's all seems a bit cliquey and intense.

Hi mums,

I am from Malaysia and we have the same garbage FB voting contests here too. Silly organisers simply do not understand that cheating is rampant, and there are many sites that SELL FB Likes. For those with multiple FAKEbook.CON accounts, they will just EXCHANGE votes.

Perhaps there should be some form of legislation to ban such contests, and promote good, old-fashioned creativity contests, and the organisers select the winners themselves. I am all for fair contests.

Buy Likes Sites

Votes Exchange Sites

exchange.tims-solutions.co.uk
likeexchange.net/

The only viral effect STUPID organisers are getting is getting conned big time, and pissing off real customers. That is a disease worth stopping.

They do not read nor undestand the dark side of FB CHEATING, ooops Voting Contests.

But, happy reading anyway.
