AIBU?

Regarding my postman

Have got into a stupid situation with my postman and am just wondering whether iabu or if he is (or possibly both of us)

On Monday morning I stepped outside to find one of those big postmans bags, with royal mail written on it, on my door step. It was empty other than a large empty canister of oil.

I didn't want to throw it away as it wasn't mine and I thought the postman might have left it accidentally plus my bin is full.

So I left it to one side in the garden incase he picked it up on his way back. I saw him on Wednesday (must have missed him Tuesday) and nicely said "I think you or another postman forgot your bag on Monday" and showed him it.

Him: yeah? ( as in the stroppy teenager yeah and....?)
Me: I didn't want to throw it away as its bit mine and I thought it might have been lost
Him: just chuck it in the bin
Me: my bin is full
Him: you want me to throw it over the fence?
(into someone else's garden!)
Me: umm no....
Him: I'll stick it in the van on my way back up
Me: ok thanks

He never bothered, and it's annoyed me. I can throw it in the bin when they have been collected but I am annoyed at his attitude, that he feels my garden or next doors is his own personal dumping ground and that he said he would take it and didn't. It's one of the big bags and will take up a lot of space in a bin that's just enough for a family of 5.

I know it sounds like I am obsessed with bins!

Contact the sorting office if you think he's not shown you good customer service.

YANBU. He sounds like a right dickhead. Wrap the bloody bag round his neck next time you see him.

Complain and get him sacked. He sounds like a shirker and an idiot.

Yep, go over his head. Contact the sorting office and complain about their equipment having been abandoned on your property, and mention the inadequate response from the delivery person.

The postman has just literally run past my houseHmm

It's hardly difficult for him to move a bag! I will ring the sorting office and hope the postman isn't some psycho and doesn't come after me

What an idiot. Surely it would be easier to pick up the bag now than to run past your house every day. What is he going to do when he has to deliver to your house? Is he very young?

He's late 30s at a guess. Before this he has always said good morning and smiled, I have lots of parcels delivered and he felt comfortable enough to just open the porch and not disturb me.

I just spoke to a nice lady at the sorting office who said it was very bizarre and she would tell him to collect it.

Even if the bag was unusable for some reason, surely he'd be expected to take it back to the sorting office to be mended/recycled?

So not that young then. It's extremely odd behaviour and a little bit funny that he's behaving like a teen who is trying to avoid a telling off. :)

Just odd, that.
My postie told me off yesterday becuase a letter I had been sent had such dodgy handwriting that it was almost illegible (she was right, it is incredibly difficult to make out, but....not really my fault, surely?). Maybe they've put some chemical in the water at the sorting office to make postie's go a bit nuts this week?

The bag is gone!

A man did knock the door but I had just fed ds3 to sleep on me and nothing will make me risk waking him up and having to start over so I didn't answer it. Good service from the sorting office Smile

I really hate posties dropping their elastic bands willy-nilly! They must know, apart from the danger to wildlife, that this is littering and subject to fines but they ALL do it!

Disclaimer; neither I nor DH are posties...
I believe time and motion has hit the GPO(or whatever the hell it is called these days). A lot of posties actually do have to run where they can to make their times.
Bag defo should not have been dropped in your garden tho'.

Megatron · 24/03/2012 08:30

Yep. The bin was actually out on the driveway waiting to be collected. I found the 'you were out' thingy when I got home. When I asked him about it he said 'oh did you not get them then?' Er, no you put them in the bin you twat.

The sorting office wanted to debate with me yesterday, when I went to collect a parcel, whether it was in fact a package not a parcel Confused. Umm, what's the difference, I thought. Just give me the damn parcel :o.
