or was She?

I'm still Angry

In traffic today queuing for Sainsbury's car park, on main road. Free flowing traffic to the right of me.

Our line of traffic starts to move up to speed of no more than 20 - 25 miles per hr.

Car infront of me brakes very sharply, as I do. I had enough braking distance infront of me. As i braked i looked into my rear view mirror to see the car behind very, very close to me and the woman driver had a shocked look on her face. I look ahead of me, thinking she just about smashed into me. Oh, well that's the hazards of driving. too close.

Next minute knock on my passenger window this woman driver from behind me (i saw her car door was open in my rear view mirror) , is shouting that i almost made her crash into my car and how i was a stupid bitch!

I said you must have been too close! She was ranting at me, but it wasn't my fault!!!!!!!!!1 Angry

She threatened to punch my face and i was lucky she did not on this occasion. She sped away.

WTF? Angry

I wish i'd got her number plate, i feel i should go to the police as next time she could hurt somebody.

YANBU but you know that.

She was being a bitch and blaming you for her mistake.

I'm not surprised you are still feeling shocked and angry after that. Clearly she has issues with anger and with taking on a bit of personal responsibility.

Hope you are okay and not feeling too shaken for two long.

As I understand it, the onus is on the car behind not to bump into the one in front even if it does brake suddenly. You're supposed to allow enough distance to stop. It would have been technically her fault if she'd hit your car, even if it wasn't, if that makes sense.

I do know but do not realise it :(

It's totally her fault. What did she expect you to do? If you hadn't breaked you'd have crashed into the car in front of you.

Ranting away at me...that's what i was thinking Annie at the time. Maybe she doesn't know that? Maybe because she isn't insured! Oh gosh!!!

As Annie says, it would have been her fault if she'd gone into you. Be thankful she was only in your life for a minute - she has to live with herself every day.

No point in getting angry now

You can't report her because you didn't take her number down

You could of course go with the 5 million to one chance that she's reading this and Caps Lock her to death.......

I'm worrying that next time she might be with people who might 'set about me'. I'm usually alone in the daytime. :( I'm so glad my son was not with me!!!!!!!!!!!!

I doubt she'll remember you, she probably gets into lots of arguments if her temper is that bad.

What next time for goodness sake?

She probably wouldn't know you from Adam if you passed her again

The Highway Code states:

"126
Stopping Distances
Drive at a speed that will allow you to stop well within the distance you can see to be clear. You should
leave enough space between you and the vehicle in front so that you can pull up safely if it suddenly slows down or stops. The safe rule is never to get closer than the overall stopping distance (see Typical Stopping Distances PDF below)
allow at least a two-second gap between you and the vehicle in front on roads carrying faster-moving traffic and in tunnels where visibility is reduced. The gap should be at least doubled on wet roads and increased still further on icy roads
remember, large vehicles and motorcycles need a greater distance to stop. If driving a large vehicle in a tunnel, you should allow a four-second gap between you and the vehicle in front
If you have to stop in a tunnel, leave at least a 5-metre gap between you and the vehicle in front."

So there.

Take a note of the registration next time though, I would.

I kept looking around me in Sainsbury's, dreading bumping into her.

I'm eating a Wall's strawberry Cornetto for comfort.

Gosh! They're so small. I'll need two at least.

If she'd have hit you, the liability would have been entirely hers...

Some people shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel!!
