To go into work when sick/take time off!

Both options seem to make me UR!

I had three months off last year after I returned from mat leave, with anxiety and depression.

I was told on my return that any further absences would lead to disciplinary and possibly dismissal.

For the last two weeks family, friends and neighbours have had stomach bugs, I had it for 48 hours luckily it started on my day off and as I have 3 consecutive days off I didn't have to take time off.

Got up this morning feeling terrible, been sick three times, no dodgy stomach yet but I can tell it's coming.

So my options are stay off, risk losing my job but not pass it on to others.

Or go in, pass it on to Others but avoid being sacked.

I'll be back soon, getting ready whilst being sick and stopping a toddler trashing the house isn't easy...

Hmm sounds like you need legal advice on your employment contract. I didn't think it was legal to sack someone for being sick, but maybe that's changed.

People can get sacked for consistent poor attendance, even if it's all backed up with GP notes. If they have an underlying health reason or are pregnant they are better protected, but not if it's something else every few months.

Speak to your manager/HR as well - it sounds like you received a verbal warning for your attendance, but they will expire at some point, based on whatever internal processes exist at the job. You need to know exactly where you stand with this.

Which reminds me, if you had PND last year, should that not come under 'pregnancy related' absence? I'm not a legal rep so can't advise you, but it's worth asking your union about, if you're in one.

Yup, very legal, using the correct 'absence procedure' it's watertight I'm afraid.

X post. It didn't class as PND, it was nearly a year after having DS. The doc put it down to the lack of support I got at work and outside pressures.

I'd go in, tell them I'm sick and ask them what they want me to do.

Just make sure you wash your hands repeatedly and tell everyone you work with that you're unwell.

To be honest, they're just as likely to catch your bug travelling to work on the bus/train anyway.
