I often wonder when I'm divulging opinions and details on MN about people in RL (anonymously of course) what insane world of shitstorm could go down if anyone ever identified me or those I'm referring to.

I complained about my neighbours kids playing on my drive on FB. Irritating, but not bad enough for me to complain to them! Next day, my cousin told them I was annoyed at them.
Needless to say, he is no longer on my friends list!

Nope, I have a strict policy of not saying anything online that I wouldn't be willing to say in front of family, friends or employers. Something I have tried to drum into my children too.

ViviPru yes, just that. I mean how many situations (AIBU threads) would other users not recognise from RL!? Misinterpretation is so easy by texting or facebook, sarcastic tone or tounge in cheek never comes over easily!

Being a complete left wing, LGBTQ rights, human rights and feminist individual, and being very outspoken about it has saved me having to trim the misogynists, racists, disablists and homophobics from my friends list... They gladly delete me themselves!

Not sure if this is what you mean, but ex found out my password and used to log in and snoop through, finding "seedy" (his words) messages to "all" my exes. For that read friendly, annual messages for quick catch ups. Now I understand that some people don't like there OH being in touch with exes but we had been split up for 18 months!

I've only ever once found myself in trouble because of Facebook and that was at university when I waded in on some classmates who were posting vile comments all over each other's walls and told them exactly what I thought of them and their comments regarding the sexuality of one of the lecturers.

The leader of our course saw it, read it wrong and promptly yelled at me although I DID get a nice gift voucher when he found out I was defending the other lecturer.

I generally stay off Facebook now unless it's for something mind numbingly silly and harmless.

Mumsnet has yet to get me in trouble

In RL I'm quite passive and easygoing. if something or someone pisses me off, I generally can't be bothered to get all uppity over it and just give them a swerve. After a while though, the frustrations build and I have a good old vent on here. People would be really quite surprised I think, if they knew how I really feel.

do you mean like posting "I've just had 3 sh1tty e-mails from the same jerk" on facebook and then being subject to disciplinary procedures by the committee club that you are both members of? Done that one. I left it a decent interval before defriending said jerk but I still maintain that if jerk hadn't brought it to the attention of the committee nobody would have known quite how much of a shit he could be.

I once texted my boyfriend something quite rude and accidently sent it to one of my male friends. I still occasionly get sent it back by various 'friends' of mine, they all still find it hilarious years later.

Yes! lol I've mentioned parties on certain friend's walls who've told me off as they haven't invited other friends... I don't get the politics usually.

On forums like this I can post before I think, or post before I've researched something, or really chewed it over in my mind... and then its there forever, there's no retraction.

I'm good at holding my hands up though and I've never posted anything I KNOW is going to get someone else in trouble!
