AIBU to think there are more right wing views on MN than left wing?

I used to think it the other way round but lately there have been a lot more right wing views on threads.

I'm still staunchly left-wing.

Well, you would say that. The immigrants told you to.

I read your thread title quickly as 'right wing wives'. Grin

Yes, another left-winger here.

I used to think I had slightly right wing tendencies but since joing mumsnet I have realised how left wing I am

There are right wing threads that i read and think i cba with, so don't post, until they get outrageous.

Perhaps people are believing the propaganda that you would expect with the torys in power?

I think there are more nitwits who take their cue from the Daily Hate and Jeremy Kyle. That's probably shifted things a bit.

I'm left, but I did get called a right wing fascist for complaining there was no post during the postal strike....Angry

I worked in A mail room at the time

There does seem to be a disporoptionate amount of MNetters with DC's in private school

i haven't seen much in the way of people vaunting the benefits of a free market economy. Have we been looking at the same website?

or perhaps, when you say 'right wing' do you mean 'politics i don't like'?

Kayano, I sent a strong letter of complaint when I received my post during the postal strike. This was after berating the postman (not our usual guy who was striking) for breaking the picket line.

EggyAllenPoe · 18/09/2011 12:07

bums the number of MNers with DCs at private school is higher than the national average, though that is not necessarily a good indicator of political leaning, and has ever been the case.

Report
picnicbasketcase · 18/09/2011 12:08

I went to a private school and my parents aren't right wing in the slightest. I'm not either and I would send my DC to private schools if I could afford to, which I can't.

Report
Birdsgottafly · 18/09/2011 12:10

Although i am left wing, was once accussed of being a Marxist, i would consider private school if the schools in my area were badly failing.

I would counter balance it with campaigning avidly for social justice, though.

you don't think that you are seeing this a bit backwards, ie the government in power (coalition as it is!) is a reflection of a shift in view of the people ?

I always think MN is quite far left, actually, although you do get the odd newbie coming up with Daily Mail Asylum Seekers Ate My Hamster stories, but they get jumped on pretty sharpish.

Report
Bumsnetter · 18/09/2011 12:12

I would like to send me DC's to private school if I could afford it. I do find that most left wing people I know send their DC's to state school, perhaps that is just the people I know though

Gay40 I had only said I was bored at work because of t but there were loads of people ready to jump down my throat an call me right wing. I ne'er said I didn't support it Sad

I am smack bang in the middle.

MN seems fairly extremely left to me with the occasional extremely right wing crazy thrown in for spice.

Both sides spout exactly the same shit, they both want to control what everyone is thinking and doing and they both think they are absolutely right and anyone who disagrees with them is wrong.

Still, entertaining to watch...the vaaaaast majority of 'real' people IME are in the middle somewhere, which is why society mostly rolls along OK.

No, I wasn't having a go at you, Kayano. Only the scab who delivered my letters that day.

i think there are a lot of people on here who have a very tory tinted view of life.

(i am child of educated parents, privately educated, had a pony etc etc but have a concept \ experience of 'the other side of the fence' and empathy for those who find themselves there)
there are a lot of people who have no understanding of the lack of jobs, prospects and opportunity for massive numbers of society. to me, that is a right wing perspective.

the media (right wing) has turned the middle classes against the working poor, the working poor against benefit claimants, benefit claimants against immigrants - and nobody is looking 'up' to see who's really pissing themselves laughing whilst making off with the family silver.

Hooray for the rightwingers.
Take some personal responsibility and stop waiting for the taxman to bail you out

Report
slavetofilofax · 18/09/2011 12:26

I disagree. I find that anyone with a right wing view of anything gets shouted down by a mob of lefties who all then stick together and congratulate eachother on their leftiness.

I think it's easy to be right wing until you find yourself sitting on the other side of the fence.

Gay - who the hell are you to decide whether that postman could afford to strike for a day?! You have no idea of his personal circumstances, or his political views!

Report
PuspornInBoots · 18/09/2011 12:43

Dunno - if the only way to tell is to count up the people who call David Cameron and other tory politicians names, and post "tories are shit" and "all tories are bastards" type stuff then, no, 9 out of 10 posters who express a preference via abusive posting are left wing. (Come to think of it, it's 10 out of 10, I can't recall seeing one single post showing political preference being for the tory party.)
